Collage of portraits and historical photographs featuring several women arranged against a light background. At the upper left is a pencil portrait of Charlotte Small with braided hair and a headscarf. To the upper right are smaller portraits including Barbara Frum speaking into a radio microphone and Maud Abbott in an academic gown. In the center are colour and black-and-white portraits of Michelle Douglas in a Canadian Armed Forces uniform and Judy LaMarsh wearing glasses and a pearl necklace. Along the lower section are Carrie Best reading a newspaper titled βThe Clarion,β Kim Campbell wearing medals in a formal portrait, Hide Hyodo Shimizu teaching two children in front of a chalkboard reading βHastings Park,β and Bobbie Rosenfeld seated with medals and a trophy. On the right side is a large image of Mary Two-Axe Earley gesturing while speaking, wearing glasses and a large pendant necklace. A faint βCanadian History Ehxβ logo appears near the center of the collage.
It is International Women's Day.
There have been many, many amazing women who have shaped Canada's history.
I have chosen to feature ten of those women.
These are their amazing stories.

Someone who looks a lot like Spice, in all black standing arms outstretched holding a book (a bible) whilst police horses charge it. There's a crowd behind.
They didn't run it down & the line was held.
Outnumbered the fascists.
Police failed to break our line.
They got bundled into taxis & fucked off home.
Got a pic that goes crazy hard out of the whole equation.
Lovely Saturday, over all.

The Tyee is proud to have published this important investigation by @rachelgilmore.bsky.social. We condemn this egregious harassment of a journalist for doing her job, and have offered support as she deals with this disturbing situation.

Sorry, but this is an insane take. Enabling people to profit off of atrocities creates an incentive for people to cause atrocities. This shit just needs to be banned.

i was talking to my mom about cardassians and said something along the lines of what must it be like to be a cardassian civilian. like abstractly knowing the rest of the galaxy thinks of your species as 'the evil ones' and kinda sorta knowing your government runs labor camps and torture prisons and is a military empire, and it's a huge deal for everyone else in the galaxy, but you just like run a restaurant so it's not a big part of your daily life, so you just like, go about your day and make soup and don't think about it' and then halfway through my sentence i actually heard myself and then had to go sit down for like ten minutes. like sat down in a chair and stared at the floor for ten minutes

This seems clearly faked. Look at the moment of impact, a mast of some sort seems to just pop into existence pointing outward from the carrier.

𧡠SUPERVISED CONSUMPTION CLOSURES
Itβs been obvious for years that Albertaβs UCP government wants the sites closed.
So whatβs stopped them? Why didnβt they just do it after Kenney said he wouldnβt βhelp addicts inject poisonβ in 2018?
They needed plausible legitimacy. 1/

Some other alternatives: they might be completely ignorant of how Nazism developed, and how Germany failed to stop it. Or, they might feel that their values are basically compatible with the fascists. Or they might not detect a threat at all, believing that the status quo will hold.

A poster: Common Horizon hosts Clean Up Your MAS* Write-A-Thon. Workshop on how to contact your officials and letter writing session. February 25, 7-9 PM, 33 Acres Brewery. All supplies provided.
In Calgary tomorrow evening, Common Horizon is hosting a workshop and letter-writing session for people concerned with the Alberta government's Mature Asset Strategy, a policy that would dump responsibility for cleaning up polluted oil well sites onto the public.

Opinion: Right turns on red β itβs time for a change
Over the past two years in Winnipeg, 25 pedestrians or cyclists have been killed in vehicle collisions.
My column today: If we want neighbourhoods to be walkable and vibrant, people need to feel safe walking and biking. The 1970βs law allowing right turns on red lights prioritizes vehicles over safety. Many cities are now considering banning it in urban areas. www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/anal...

AKA the scourge of Goldeneye 007. Unlimited ammunition, high damage, very accurate. You could just wander around with the trigger down and let the auto aim erase people as they came into view, which also inflicted morale damage to your friends.

Driving a car safely under all conditions turns out to be nearly impossible for a human! I drive, and I take as much care as I can, and I still periodically get into (or even contribute to) dangerous situations.
The answer is safer road design, and less car dependency.

Pleading for people to drive more safely isn't going to cut it.
Vision zero means tackling road safety like an engineering problem. We rebuild problem roads to be narrower, with more bollards and protective objects, with continuous sidewalks.
