I know that in the battle to get kids to read, seeing their heroes promoting books really helps … but why is it only ever football?

+ we know through a wealth of research that a key encourager of reading for pleasure is for children to see ppl like them reflected in the books they read and in the ppl promoting those books. A celeb endorsement is just as likely to leave a child thinking “I’m nothing like them/this isn’t for me”!

Esp. enjoyed descriptions of author studying emotional landscapes- keeping notebooks and maps of neurotypical people's responses at school: "Emotion is not mysterious to me, because I am a student of it".
