Left can't resist being on wrong side of a war
Whether it's Jeremy Corbyn or Zack Polanski, their foreign policy stances terrify voters outside core supporters
Well, hereโs the thing about being antiwar as an ethical belief: it means you end up opposing most wars. Almost all of them, in fact. This is quite common in people who have consistent beliefs but looks insane to people who have none, or mostly just believe superior people should make the decisions.

"Fascinating trade," said the old man, and a wistful look came into his eyes, "doing the coastlines was always my favourite. Used to have endless fun doing the little bits in fjords..."

I thought his Doctor Who stuff was prolific but he wrote an awful lot of other stuff.

Photograph of front covers of 10 books by Terrance Dicks.
Top row: Doctor Who and the Keeper of Traken; Doctor Who and the Auton Invasion; The Adventures of K9; Dalek Special; and Shakedown.
Bottom row: The Adventures of David and Goliath - Sports Day; T.R. Bear Afloat; The Camden School Kids School Fair; War of the Witches; and Wereboy!
It's #WorldBookDay and while archives don't tend to be somewhere you find a lot of published books, our new Terrance Dicks Archive came with a full library of his works - and who were we to say no? Let us know if you spot an old favourite among this (very select) selection ๐

A girl with a strident voice leapt to her feet and used it. "Shut up, you two," she said, "I want to table a motion." "You mean boulder a motion," tittered a hairdresser. "Order, order!" yapped the management consultant.

Read this last year. Falls very much between two stools. There are some good ideas (The Professionals spoof is quite funny) but not satisfactory overall.

Starmer: "Moments like this define the Leader of the Opposition. They can either step up, act in the national interest... or they can expose their utter irrelevance. She has chosen the second"

One a month books published adaptations of the new series episodes. I think it would take in excess of 10 years and that is without any new episodes

I think I have reached the point where I am overwhelmed by the shittiness of the world and underwhelmed by the lack of consequences.
I can't work out if the two cancel to leave me merely whelmed or if they combine to make me uberwhelmed.

[We see a close up of a young white male, tanned, white teeth, coiffed hair clearly an influencer on social media. It is an image such as you see when social media posts are shown on the news. In the corner of the screen is named a location: DUBAI. He is staring slightly off-camera for several silent panels of the comic strip. His eyes move slightly. He is having a thought.]
From off-screen a newsreaderโs commentary comes:
NEWSREADER:
Extraordinary images here
of an expat in Dubai
[The influencerโs eybrows raise slightly]
โฆHaving their first ever geopolitical thought.
[CUT TO a BBC news scene. The BBC newsreader CLIVE MYRIE is talking to an interviewee next to the screen showing the social media influencerโs face. The intervieweeโs name is David Jones].
CLIVE MYRIE:
To explain the significance of this moment weโre joined by David Jones, our Expat Thoughts correspondent
DAVID JONES:
Clive, this is momentous
It was caught on film at the end of an Instagram post titled: โDubai Is Brilliantโ.
[Pointing at the screen, the influencerโs expression still the same]
You can clearly see in the eyebrows here, the dawning realisation that there *might* be something in the world beyond his dickhead self.
It marks a *huge* departure from all the Dubai Expatโs previous thoughts.
CLIVE MYRIE:
Which areโฆ?
DAVID JONES:
You've Got To Get Yourself Out Here Mate, Everything Is So Clean, I Don't Have To Pay Taxes,
I Am Incurious As To Why I Do Not Have To Pay Taxes, and Spa.
CLIVE MYRIE:
And might we see an expansion of these new Thoughts in coming days?
DAVID JONES:
I think we can expect to see:
โI Deserve To Be Airlifted By A Country I Pay No Tax Toโ
CLIVE MYRIE:
Mmm.

Warwick Castle keep
The ghost of the Dun Cow, a monstrous bovine killed by Guy of Warwick, was reputed appear in the courtyard of Warwick Castle whenever a member of the Earl of Warwickโs family was likely to die. The spectre made no sound and its hoofs left no marks.

I love Forbidden Planet. The scope, the imagination, the design, the FX, the cyclorama, the obvious inspiration for Star Trek, the incredibly squicky age gap romance. Okay, not that last bit.
Far more modern than much 50s Sci-Fi but with the cozy sound stage Hollywood magic of The Wizard of Oz.
