things every single republican president of your lifetime has done
- started a war in the middle east
- completely destroyed the economy
Trump has launched a war of βfury,β to βrazeβ and βannihilate,β that has already killed dozens of Iranian girls, reportedly cost the lives of U.S. servicemembers, and will kill many more of both. He is acting without authorization by Congress and flouting international law.
Just over 3 weeks in and this semester is already getting weird.
"Abolish the Police and then what?" while infantile and often asked in bad faith, is at least, on some levels, a real question
"Ablish ICE and then what?" Is not a real question. Clearly if ICE didn't exist tomorrow society would just objectively be more peaceful and would not in any way fall apart
I'm not familiar with it, but I'll check it out! Thanks!
Great idea!
Yes! Do you like Seminar XI for that or are there a few secondary texts that find particularly useful?
Can anyone recommend some good writing on the idea of recursion? Something in sound or image would be ideal, but math and computation is also more than welcome - I'm casting a wide net and looking to see what I find!
Seems like an evergreen image these days.
The linked Tik Tok pretty well sums up the current fascism.
A brilliant analysis of the state of higher education in the U.S. The crisis of the humanities has always been the tip of the spear of authoritarian governmentality taking aim at civil society and the entire apparatus of education

A timely reminder about the importance of higher education from an institution being dismantled by neoliberalism. Full article here: jacobin.com/2025/12/new-...
Teaching Baudrillard's "The Precession of Simulacra" today, now that we're reaching the end of my Paranoid Aesthetics class. Every time I teach this text, I am always amazed at how prescient it is.
It's about cruelty. It's only about cruelty and an enforcement of extreme poverty.
People need to understand that Chicago is a preview, not a culmination.
Starving the population rarely goes well for authoritarian regimes.
Also, I would love to hear from the many so-called Christians in the Republican party about what their beliefs say about feeding the hungry.

A really harrowing visualization of just how rich Elon Musk is. Perhaps we should rethink the existence of billionaires?

Interesting. It would be fascinating to see MTG and others move away from the extreme Right, and showing them to be political opportunists and their Right-wing discourse as something rooted in bad-faith arguments.
I can't even begin to say how pleased I am to have been a part of electing Zohran Mamdani as mayor of NYC!
So proud of my fellow New Yorkers! Mamdani wins!

Get out and vote tomorrow, NYC!
I canβt stress this enough. They want to do inside the US the kind of extrajudicial murders theyβve been doing internationally. This has always been about normalizing the ability of Trump to smite his personal enemies without suffering legal consequences. Trumpβs testing for compliance & resistance.
Remember when Paul Krugmanβs columns were soooo wonky.
βIt sounds crazy to say that Republicans are making children go hungry to protect pedophiles, but itβs actually a reasonable interpretation of the situation.β - Paul Krugman
Amazing headline.
That would be amazing!
I do! I couldn't fit it into my syllabus this semester, but it's great work!
Teaching the first episode of The X-Files in class tomorrow as we consider the role of government and sovereign authority in the construction of conspiracy. We've been talking a lot about UFOs in class, and it will be interesting to hear their perspective on such an iconic TV show.
