When confronted with all of the work I put in to debunking these numbers, I was given this scholarly rebuttal that called everything I did into question:

So, the next time you see the image, or one like it, at the top of this chain, just keep in mind that this is the kind of number fudging that goes into fearmongering about Gender Affirming Care in minors.

Add in all of the people with DSDs and precocious puberty that are no doubt being lumped in as well. Not only that, but this is PER INCIDENT, meaning each prescription, not case, counted. You can see just how easy it would be to get to tens of thousands of prescriptions in 5 years.

If that's not enough, there's also several diabetes medications on this list too, which I have no clue what for.

Now think back to those GD codes. Anyone that's been filtered with those codes and on birth control or taking cholesterol medication is being counted.

On top of that, every single kind of birth control was in here. I'm not just talking pills, this also included IUDs and vaginal rings. My hunch is that the 'researchers' just listed every single prescription that has estrogen/progesterone/testosterone/anti-androgens in it without care.

Then I started getting into the prescriptions and it's just LOADED with anything even tangentially related to trans health. First of all, every one of these codes deals with cholesterol medication. Think Lipitor. Every kid with a GD diagnosis and cholesterol issues was counted.

A list of medical codes relating to treatments alleged to be given to minors for sex change. Many codes are highlighted in yellow that the OP thinks shouldn't be part of the set.

Here are a bunch of the codes for what was labeled "Sex Change Surgeries." I highlighted in yellow ones are too broad in scope. Some of these would count towards "Sex Change Surgeries" if the kid needed any kind of skin treatment. Burn Victim? Yup, that's a sex change.

Moving on, the codes for the GD diagnosis seemed fine at first, but then included an incredibly broad one with F64.8 (Other Gender Identity Disorders). Basically, anything like gender-fluidity, androgyny, agender, etc. is this. Keep that in mind for the next few points.

Next, the authors freely admit that they included patients that didn't have a GD diagnosis as long as a code for Intersex surgery was included in an adolescent. So, a teen with a DSD that had a related surgery and no GD got counted as part of this because they "felt" it necessary.

This means it might have been decided on by a handful of people that have never made a GD diagnosis or participated at any point in the treatment of a patient with one. Based on information further down in this chain, I think they have minimal understanding.

First off, they filtered cases by medical codes assigned to patients. The codes determined to fit the criteria for GD/GAC were allegedly decided on by a 'team of medical professionals.' Yet, their qualifications and methodology wasn't included in the data.

They got patient data for everyone aged 0-17.5 years old, filtered for ones that had a Gender Dysphoria (GD) diagnosis, and then counted each instance of prescribed Gender Affirming Care (GAC).

This, on the surface, would be fine if not for massive dishonesty.

First off, these comes from the organization "Do No Harm" which is an anti-trans advocacy group.

The way these numbers were reached is grossly simple to get the biggest number possible.
