On the discord alternative note, fluxer looks pretty cool. Like idk discord-like enough to mainstream, but with a roadmap that suits what I want out of a chat app.

I accidentally watched a conservative video accidentally and like... they all sound so AI-generated. Like there's no depth and it's just like drama slop, i don't know how people genuinely are like "this is peak content."

Also for anyone pissed off currently at discord, matrix exists and is pretty cool. It's what I've been using for the longest time, it also (though as far as I know pretty recently) has a discord-like client, commet.chat.

Discord... more like dis shit ord got em.
Saying someone is an Xbro feels like the modern thought-terminating cliche no matter what the group is. It also gives off very chan vibes. Like idk the lack of nuance in some discussions frightens me because even though I agree with the conclusion, it just feels like a wide net that got lucky.
The amount of times I've seen more privacy-respecting or FOSS stuff be misrepresented and people eating it up because it fits their narrative that its not *just* convenience that they can justify is weird to me. It's also why I hate the "broification" of language.
People need to stop calling technologies cult-like simply because they do not understand them (And before this is miscontrued to be about AI, its not). Like I'm so tired of the weird fearmongering about any sort of tech especially when used to push privacy-disrespecting regulation.
"Dark Souls is easy" it says, expecting to be punished for its hubris, but it simply never is.

I love traditional social deduction games, I just wish they could be more accessible and be more than just "How well do you fit into this new culture of people?" like I've had experienced many times when playing the less-mechanical focused ones.
tl;dr: Social deduction complicated, video soon.
The answer might simply mean pivoting to real time social deduction games like the likes of Among Us. Having the focus be on hiding information and the social aspect being based purely on in-game behaviours, however I do not know how I feel about that sort of conclusion.
Safe to say, obviously, it's a niche within a niche anyway. Social deduction games thrive as party game experiences, but I do wonder if there's a way to build social deduction games which avoid the social politics problem whilst having more social elements past just "what info do you have?"
However, I think the main difference with social deduction games is it feels like they thrive on outsider culture, which is fine if maintained in a casual/party sense. In a competitive setting though this seems to fall apart. It no longer becomes "how convincing is your case" and "I like you."
Currently working on a social deduction game which is specifically why I am curious about this. Obviously competitive games inherently will have elements of toxicity as the desire to win becomes the biggest component and everything else subsides. This happens in all sorts of competitive games.
I do wonder if social deduction games* being in competitive spaces (and not just merely being same social deduction game taken seriously) ever has the potential to end well. A lot of the time it ends up falling apart down to social politics and a pseudo popularity contest.

I kinda miss the reblogging-ishness of activitypub, I'm so used to being able to find cool people by seeing so many reblogs on my feed, but it feels like bsky has not gotten to that point yet.
