While thousands of Apple workers in Minnesota and around the country are facing daily threats of violence from ICE, Tim Cook is socializing with the man responsible for it.
Shame on you, Tim.
Protect your workers.
We expect better from you.

*ABSOLUTELY* this.
Comparison of SMARTβs 43 mile construction costs to Santa Cruz 22 miles ZEPRT: Length of rail service 43 miles 22 miles Miles of paved bike-ped pathway 15 12* Number of boarding stations 10 9 Number of bridges 27 33 Number of tunnels 2 0 Rivers crossed 1 (navigable**) 2 (non-navigable) Freight-capable Yes Yes Operations center Yes Yes Public at-grade crossings 63 45 Rail configuration Single-track w/sidings Single-track w/sidings Train type Diesel multiple unit Zero-emission multiple unit Number of trainsets 7 double-unit (14 units) 7 single-unit Time from inception to active service 2003-2017 (14 yrs) 2012-2045 (33 yrs) TOTAL COST (in 2025 dollars) $863M*** ($20.1M/mile) $4.3B ($195M.mile)
We need someone like you to look at the Santa Cruz County RTCβs ZEPRT that puts the cost at $195 million/mile for the existing branch line between Santa Cruz and Pajaro. (22 miles for $4.2 billion) Weβve compared it to Sonoma/Marinβs SMART line & that was an order of magnitude less expensive.
This tells me how much the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission was trying to kill the rail project. They claim ours will be $4 billion for 22 miles of service.
Screenshot from Supervisor Koenigβs newsletter: βPersonally, I'm ready to see this absurd train proposal permanently put to rest in the annals of "Santa Cruz's Dumbest Ideas." However, I'm willing to agree to the pro-rail elements of the Peace Plan in order to: β’ Build the trail we all want as fast as possible β’ Minimize disruptions for Roaring Camp - a beloved local business β’ Preserve all of the grant funding we have received for the rail and trail corridor If for some reason this plan fails to garner enough votes on Thursday, I will return to advocating that we simply rail bank and moveβ
Supervisor Koenig straight up insulted the nearly ΒΎ of voters who told him donβt remove the rails here. Itβs a good thing that iβm not a violent person. FTR, itβs not a peace plan if the opposition gets nothing in the bargain. Anyone local who can show up tomorrow to the RTC meeting, please do.
Pretty old school, Janette DuCharme from Forever Knight.
There is no hell hot enough for these people.
No, I didnβt pick those numbers at random. That is exactly the spread of the vote in 2022 to keep the rail in Santa Cruz County, but at nearly every transportation meeting, Metro meeting, BoS meeting, they go on about how long itβs taking and how expensive it will be. Theyβre why itβs taking so long
Iβm going to be excited about these wins, but I know that I have to temper my expectations. People are impatient and progress is slow. You can win an election 72/28, but until the people start to see results, the other side will grasp at every straw and flood the zone with bullshit to swing it back.
Drives me nuts when reporters include βboth sidesβ but forget to mention that the opposition is two white guys who show up to every meeting with rude comments, and the support is a multi-racial, multi-age and cross-income representation of the entire county.

I started to wonder around a decade ago, were my standards lower when I was younger, have his opinions just shifted in the intervening time, were they better hidden, or have I just learned how to recognize the red flags in the intervening time? Heβs not the only example, but a notable one.
Yet Santa Cruz refuses to do anything substantial about climate change, from fighting light rail infrastructure every step of the way, to blocking any attempts at parking revenue, to our assembly member abstaining from voting on transit-adjacent housing. Itβs so frustrating. Constantly.
As I was getting ready to fly home this morning, I learned that a close friend has passed. I'm grateful that I was already on the east coast, but devastated by losing someone who was at my side so often in college.
I'm so eager for passenger rail in Santa Cruz County. The 90-120 minutes that it takes the bus between Santa Cruz and Watsonville will be cut by more than half, and it will be so much more convenient for me to connect to Caltrain and Amtrak.
Taking healthcare away from millions of people as Disability Pride Month begins is some anime villain ass shit.
pretty weird how there's always billion dollars just lying around whenever ICE needs concentration camps but there's never any money when children need healthcare or a simple school lunch. oh well just one of those things I guess

π§΅1/15 Hello @benstiller.redhour.comβ¬
We are distant colleagues and have some similarities at our workplaces.
In Severance, characters use collective action to fight back against an exploitative tech company.
We do the same at Apple, but we need your help!
I've been trying to understand why I feel the particular flavor of distressed that I do right now. I think it's because we can no longer discuss the lessons we should be learning from any kind of disaster without the worst chucklefucks coming out of the woodwork to wreck everything.
I'm also frustrated that the Santa Cruz Branch Line has been moved from mid-term to long-term π

Please please please, each and every time you see someone on social media or in person use past tense language like "during Covid," "back at the height of the pandemic," etc.
Do NOT let them get away with it. Be annoying as fuck. These people are encouraging Covid denial, which spreads the plague.
I really believe that the reason the ruling class is ignoring Covid is bc in the early days something shifted. Ppl pulled together. Ppl indulged their interests while at home. We saw a different life.
They didn't like it and they will kill us first.
Yes please on this.
