I was thinking more of an Uncle Boonmee scenario.
I was thinking more of an Uncle Boonmee scenario.
No kinkshaming, Jo.
Doing a recce for a walk-to-school thread, and it did NOT disappoint. The van which mounted the pavement and drove towards me to skip a queue was quite the highlight.
Absolutely.
Yeah, same. My experience is that most of the time drivers are fine, but recently I have seen one guy blocking the pavement while making deliveries, and it needs to stop.
It's the old 'freedom of speech isn't freedom from consequences' problem.
I saw someone recently posting about a delivery driver driving on the pavement and honking their horn at them, and I thought this might not have been the intent of any government, but it's an inevitable consequence of deregulation and just not giving a damn about how things work.
The home delivery situation couldn't have turned out worse if it had been planned. Amazing failure of regulation, with successive governments happy for the existing postal system to slowly die because they didn't want to fix it.
If we were being serious about bus reliability we'd have added a bus gate.
Why that's still a through road is a mystery.
(It's not a mystery, and a certain Mr Hoad has a lot to answer for.)
So it *is* possible to reject fast-food outlets. Someone tell Stockport's planning department!
It wouldn't even be that much. The highest rate of tax would only apply to the portion of income that falls into that band, in the same way it does currently with income over ยฃ50,000.
Letter from Clive Wood at Guide Dogs to the author, full text: "I was delighted to read that Westminster City Council have approved a scheme that will upgrade the tactile surfaces at crossing points across the City. Bringing these crossing points in line with national tactile guidance. For several years, Guide Dogs and other representative organisations for people with a vision impairment and other groups have raised our concerns with the previous administration around tactile surface inconsistency, poor contrast and design at crossing points. For the estimated 6,640 people living with sight loss and the thousands of vision impaired visitors to Westminster, we know that this landmark decision by the council will make a significant difference to enabling independent mobility with confidence. On behalf of the charity Guide Dogs and those we support, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Westminster City Council for introducing a scheme that will make a real difference. Also from myself who is vision impaired and walks in Westminster on a regular basis."
Powerful from @guidedogsuk.bsky.social on our tactile policy change and ยฃ1.5M program to upgrade crossings. For 27 years Westminster Council's conservative admins knowingly disregarded national guidance, but we have changed that.

The estates of Patterson and Gimlin should sue.

๐จ LAST CHANCE: Today is the final day to demand a better transport plan for Greater Manchester!
An 8% traffic reduction isn't enough to reach Net Zero by 2038 or make our streets safe for everyone. ๐ฒ๐

The consultation's been live for two weeks as well!
Drop-In Consultation Event From 14 Feb 2023 at 15:25 to 14 Feb 2023 at 19:00 More information Stockport Council will be hosting a drop-in session for the consultation at XX. This is an opportunity to discuss the scheme with Council Officers directly, and provide feedback and suggestions.
Oh dear me. (Yes, this is a live consultation. No, it did not start in 2023.)
I've submitted my response. Don't forget to do yours!
'Porc bound' is just constipation surely?
Named after the author?
In the unlikely event someone sees my post and feels the urge to reply with 'What about [people who can't walk/cycle]'?
If you can walk or cycle, then by leaving your car at home you're reducing congestion for those who cannot. A win all round.
With the price of fuel on everyone's minds, we're due a reminder that 15% of car trips in Greater Manchester are 1km or less. That's a 12-minute walk or 4-minute bike ride.
Save some money, stretch your legs, leave the car at home.
Reality Star Wars.
Kicked into action by @owlernook.bsky.social I've done my bit for Greater Manchester by answering a few questions at www.gmconsult.org/transport/tr... The short 'takes 10 minutes' questionnaire took me an hour but you can always just object to the A6-M60 and High Lane bypass if you want to save time

Thanks I hate it.
* Salford would beg to differ.
** Is it a parklet if there's no reallocation of road space?
Wild to think that this was the location of the first* parklet** in Greater Manchester. They even held an international conference at the cinema!
Savitsky? Would love to visit, but yeah not right now.
