I am deeply disappointed in @keranews.org for failing to correct some very obviously false information shared by Ricciardelli in this interview. I hope KERA corrects the record on these, but the following thread will go over some points that stand out to me: 1/9
@wfaach8.bsky.social The riders are ready for their 5 minute interview regarding the DART legislation HB 3187. Representative Shaheen vastly understated the impacts of his legislation. Contact us at info@ridewithdata.org and we can set something up.
YouTube comment made by the USCSB (U.S. Chemical Safety Board) on their most recent video - "Thank you to all of our viewers for your support of the CSB's safety video program - and for being the kindest and most knowledgeable comment section on YouTube."

This bill is insane
A bill filed in the Texas House Friday would reduce the amount of taxes regional transit authorities like Dallas Area Rapid Transit can collect from member cities.

Inside a not empty bus in Plano
Hereβs one of those empty buses in Plano theyβre trying to get rid of
Satellite imagery of Downtown, North, and East Portland
Picture of only slightly rainy SE Hawthorne Blvd in Portland, OR
Every time I visit Portland (my hometown), I appreciate it more.
North and East Portland are basically giant streetcar suburbs, and you can clearly see where they used to go since the commercial around them is largely still intact.
Also, lots of relatively narrow streets and no big parking lots.
Big fan of how Firefox renders the Queens bus map (although it takes forever to zoom in on this computer) www.mta.info/map/5371
It sure appears Plano really does not want to be in the whole DART business anymore. www.dmagazine.com/frontburner/...
As someone whoβs been following this since the meeting where they passed the first resolution, this is a great article.
$10 for the first person that gives me the location of my profile pic within 25 meters and was not with me when I took it (there is an OSM node for the structure)

Walkable City is good, but I suspect you already know a lot of the talking points. But itβs a quick read if you want to get it over with. Free Parking is a pretty deep dive and havenβt been able to finish it yet lol
Street full of parked cars in Bordeaux France, Google photo from 2008.
Same location in Bordeaux photo taken by me in 2023.
Before & After: I donβt think people realize the extent to which parked cars degrade public space.
Hey itβs not just you though
I didnβt take any photos at yesterdayβs @ridewithdata.org meeting (I was PAYING ATTENTION) and now I feel left out so hereβs a picture of a train instead
I was there
Woooaah I should go to this

Well it still has an effect, more so for heavy rail than light rail though. I will say that I donβt think DART light rail is very dividing, especially with all the elevated sections and sections paralleling bigger roads.
I think the inherent value for the suburbs of being connected to the regionβs largest city is a big gap not addressed by the study as well. Also interesting that you brought up that railroads can also cause divisions, which is something not often brought up by transit advocates.
