All good! Not everyone needs to have a total recollection of ancient myths.

That’s the Golden Fleece!

In Greek mythology, it’s the skin of a flying ram Zeus sent to rescue a kid named Phrixus, who then sacrificed the ram. It was kept in Colchis in the Caucasus hung on a tree and guarded by a dragon.

Vintage Ichthyosaurus crawling out of the water. Its flippers function like those of sea lions. It lacks a dorsal fin and the caudal fin does not make the familiar crescent shape.

Ichthyosaurs used to be depicted crawling on land but even then I can’t find any from back then.

I think the idea that friendships by default shouldn’t cross a gender boundary is a fixation point of the older generation that it’s good we’ve deconstructed a bit. Ultimately, your people are your people.

And in the case at hand a lot of that dialogue manifests in “I don’t think that’s actually that symbol with that history and meaning” which is just writing the effective excuses for the next guy who might not even pretend to be your friend.

I think you’re correct that we’re not immune and about the increased succinctness of ads.

I suppose what I mean is that I think there is a historical tendency to equate consumption with success that isn’t part of the current zeitgeist for quite a few people and this creates emergent limits.

I suspect, and this is based on no market analysis, that a lot of the “millennials are killing X” trend aside from affordability is just that there are a lot of us zillennial types who get the ideological ick from ads and consumerism and don’t turn up at the rates executives expect in some areas.

This is one of those posts where I have no way of knowing if it’s based on an actual occurrence or not but I support you nonetheless.

I hate the current market paradigm of “we made everything easier with our own app” because everyone wants to take up space on my phone with one. If you ask me to install a single-purpose app to use your service, I won’t use your service.

Data point of one as a zillennial but I try to keep the number of apps I use small. YouTube is my only app for audio and video. If I listen to anything, it’s via YouTube.

Almost certainly. Greek mythology was not centralized and primarily orally distributed. We’re limited to the versions that we have had passed down to us and things hinted in image depictions.

Yih, Athena’s depiction here is fairly formulaic, like Greek god imagery often is, which is why she can go unlabeled, unlike limp Jason.

She usually wears the armor over a dress with an apotropaic gorgon head on the front and the owl is her sacred bird and so represents her frequently.

Quite honestly, bad weather tends to stop a dig. Hard to have an orderly square and record everything when mud and water is coming in.

The exception is salvage digs where you have 2 weeks to save a site from construction or something. That can’t wait for sunny weather.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if that was going on here except Jason is not particularly well-armed on his guttural journey.

Yeah, I’ll be real. A lot of these comments are extremely detached from reality.

Most people you meet won’t associate you with the ongoing political situation. They’ll associate you with however they stereotype tourists and you’ll either affirm or debunk that.

I’m an American who lives in Europe. No problem at all. Internet regulars are more angry than people in real life.

However, keep in mind that your own cultural familiarity with where you’re going matters to how you’re received. Make an effort to appreciate the culture in a non-tacky way.
