We have contract articles that force the University to take a strong stance on ICE. If you are a unit member, vote yes in our SAV and organize with us to protect our coworkers!
We demand a contract that has robust protections for non-citizen workers. We demand a sanctuary campus, an end to the unnecessary surveillance of workers, and an assurance that international student information is not shared with the DHS beyond what is legally required.
We are tired of the University’s lies. We are done accepting empty promises. Student Workers of Columbia is mobilizing for a strike because the administration has made it clear that workplace safety for all is simply not their concern.
During bargaining, Columbia’s team insisted that the University is already doing a “fantastic job” protecting non-citizen student workers. How can that be true when our students are getting snatched from their homes under false pretenses?!
BREAKING: Columbia student kidnapped by DHS!
Early this morning, DHS agents entered a Columbia Residential building under the guise of searching for a “missing person” and abducted a student without any intervention. This took place just one day after our ICE off Campus rally. 🧵
We’re encouraged by the many Columbia affiliates speaking out in this letter against the University’s repression of Palestinian voices. As we mobilize for a strike, SWC remains committed to the fight for academic freedom for all members of our community.

Donate to our hardship fund in anticipation of an upcoming strike! Our workers will need your support. opencollective.com/student-work.... We recommend a one-time donation of $27.10 in honor of our local UAW 2710 <3
CU’s bargaining team have continued to stonewall negotiations. They’ve told our reps to “shut up,” and have claimed they are providing “fantastic” support for non-citizens. It’s clear that they won’t work with us unless they are pressured. It’s time to put management on notice!
An SAV authorizes our union to call for a strike. An affirmative vote doesn't mean that we'll automatically go on strike; the threat of a strike could lead to breakthroughs in negotiation. An SAV is a statement of intention to go on strike if our demands aren’t met.
We are demanding common-sense measures to improve workplace conditions: a living wage, protections for non-citizens, expanded healthcare, protections against discrimination & harassment and protections discipline & discharge without just cause, and job security and union rights.
SWC has opened a Strike Authorization Vote (SAV)! After almost a year of bargaining, it’s clear that Columbia won’t budge on core workplace issues unless we withhold our labor through a strike—we’re ready to ramp up the pressure!🧵
@swcolumbia.bsky.social has just given Columbia our contract proposal on AI- our main demands are that student workers cannot be replaced by AI tools, nor can we be forced to use them in teaching or research (or retaliated against for refusing). Looking forward to their response on Friday 😇
💥💥💥
Congrats to Columbia AAUP on successfully standing up against ICE recruitment on campus.
Let's keep organizing and go all out to get ICE off our campuses.

Student Workers spotted Public Safety Investigator Donald Gannon watching them swipe into a building where we were holding a weekly meeting. We won’t stand for this kind of intimidation: SWC is mobilizing to protect our community from Public Safety surveillance.
Thank you for speaking up, @jfrejnyc.bsky.social!
This further restriction on protest is a major threat to our union’s ability to picket and call for solidarity rallies outside of Columbia’s gates. We are staunchly against this proposed measure!

A part of the conversation will touch on how both candidates plan to ensure that Columbia University will act better as an employer, landlord, and neighbor.
Don’t forget to RSVP: tinyurl.com/assembly-can...
SWC is proud to introduce two UAW-endorsed New York State Assembly candidates: Eli Northrup (distr. 69) and Conrad Blackburn (distr. 70)!
At our town hall on Feb. 9, you can meet the candidates, ask questions, and connect with other attendees from the community.

Unionized student workers demand that Columbia find a conscience and grow a spine. Columbia, end your feckless complicity now!
After Mahmoud and Mohsen Mamdani were kidnapped, the university kept silent and refused to provide any support.
Columbia ignored Mahmoud Khalil’s plea for help when he was doxxed and harassed by university affiliates.
Columbia’s Public Safety officers escorted ICE into a University-owned residence to search for our student, Yunseo Chung.
When ICE agents showed up at our coworker Ranjani Srinivasan’s door in March, she was on a zoom call with a CU advisor for noncitizens. Ranjani recounts that the staff member seemed “amused.” CU then disenrolled Ranjani and attempted to evict her from University housing.
Currently, Columbia University: has rescinded its sanctuary campus policy, refuses to commit to ending voluntary info sharing with DHS, provides no legal support to non-citizens pursued by ICE, and enforces arbitrary limits on OPT and CPT, endangering workers legal status.
ICE is executing civilians. ICE is trafficking children. ICE is kidnapping our coworkers and neighbors. Columbia University must end its complicity with ICE. 🧵
Columbia is using loopholes in resident advisors contracts to force them to participate in programming designed to appease Trump.
This is a labor issue.
