District 2 Budget Conversation with Councilors Dan Ryan, Elana Pirtle-Guiney, and Sameer Kanal. Saturday, March 14, 12-2 p.m. at the Doubletree by Hilton Portland, 1000 NE Multnomah St.
We're coming up on budget season, and we want to know your priorities, what is and isn't working, and what questions you have for your District 2 Councilors.
Today's action will support at least 75 Portland families, and while that will make a huge difference for our community, this is just one more step in our federal response work. I will continue to partner with my colleagues and our community as we move forward.
I was glad to bring this ordinance forward at the request of our New Portlanders Policy Commission, and I am extremely grateful to the Portlanders from our immigrant community who were willing to share their stories with us, even in the face of direct attacks on their families and communities.
Today, City Council voted unanimously to allocate $150,000 from the City's Legal Priorities Reserve Fund to SOAR Immigration Legal Services, supporting immigrants whose legal protections were taken away by the Trump administration and who now sit in legal limbo.

So glad to be partnering with Councilor Steve Novick on fair wage protections for our rideshare drivers. #sharethefare

Portland is facing budget cuts. I want to know what services you rely on most and where you want us to make investments β knowing cuts are coming β so that we can balance our Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget while keeping in mind the programs you think are most important.
I'm excited to join my colleagues @councilorepg.bsky.social and @councilordanryan.bsky.social at City Club of Portland's βMeet Your City Councilorsβ District 2 conversation moderated by @wweek.com's @sophiegreenleaf.bsky.social. Join us Wed., Mar. 4 at 6pm at Alberta Rose Theatre.

This small change is going to make a big difference for a lot of Portlanders. Thank you to Council President Jamie Dunphy for bringing forward and championing this policy, and to our community for your support as we got this across the finish line.
Council President Jamie Dunphy, Councilor Tiffany Koyama-Lane, and Councilor Elana Pirtle-Guiney smile and point to an all-user restroom sign in Portland City Hall.

We did it! Today, our ordinance providing greater access to single-use restrooms through gender-neutral signage across the city passed unanimously at Council. @councilordunphy.bsky.social @councilortkl.bsky.social
Thank you to the New Portlanders Policy Commission for their leadership, SOAR for their decades of service, the community members who testified today, and staff from the Budget and Attorney's offices for their work on this ordinance.
This is a modest investment with a high return: stabilizing families, preventing unnecessary detention and deportation, protecting workers, and upholding the values we already have enshrined in law.
This practical, low-cost ordinance makes a critical and time-sensitive investment in immigration legal services for Portlanders who are facing immediate and destabilizing changes in federal immigration policy.
This funding will allow not just legal screenings, but full legal representation for qualifying individuals pursuing long-term lawful status β including asylum, family-based adjustment, visas for victims of crime or domestic violence, and other humanitarian relief.
Today in Council's Finance Committee, I introduced my ordinance reallocating $150,000 from the Legal Priorities Reserve Fund to SOAR Immigration Legal Services.
This policy is straightforward, inclusive, and it's going to make everyday life more comfortable for a lot of people in our community.
"There's so much going backwards; we need to start going forward."
@councilordunphy.bsky.social, @councilortkl.bsky.social, and I are working to provide greater access to single-use restrooms for families, caregivers, our LGBTQ+ community, and everyone across Portland.

Council is united in condemning these inexcusably violent and traumatic actions. Please see our joint statement, along with steps we ALL can take to protect our community. www.portland.gov/council/news...
The indiscriminate use of tear gas on protestors is unacceptable, let alone when children are present. No one should come to expect this kind of violence from their government. The President must change his direction.
Over the weekend, families, children, and elders were tear gassed by federal agents, continuing a pattern of deploying chemical munitions on Portlanders. Our community had gathered in protest, as is our right and as we will continue to do so long as the Trump administration is harming our neighbors.
My staff and I will be at the Tamale Boy on Dekum St. from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, January 31. Come through anytime in that two-hour period and chat with me about the issues you care about β refreshments will be provided. I'm excited to see you there!

Portlanders, please continue to look out for one another and make your voices heard. Remember: we need protest that upholds our values, but we also need people going on grocery runs for their neighbors, watching each other's kids, and helping in quiet ways. We must continue to be united.
Over the last several months, Portlanders have rightfully spoken out against federal overreach for fear of this exact action occurring. It is plain to see that the federal presence across communities in our country is only causing harm.
The folks in Minnesota who are standing in solidarity with one another through protest and demonstration are showing the true meanings of democracy, solidarity, and community, and my thoughts are with all of them.
