Jerusalem!

When cooking for company, a great stand-by cookbook is Jerusalem, by Yotam Ottolenghi. The book features many meatless dishes, and every one we've tried is absolutely delicious. Some recipes involve a lot of chopping, but the effort is worth the work.

Fighting Dyes for 50 years!
Congrats to the Feingold Association of the US. Soon after Dr. Ben Feingold shocked Americans by arguing that food dyes may trigger ADHD, FAUS began helping parents protect their kids. 50 years later, the world has begun solving the problem.

Soda, candy cut for many SNAP users starting Jan. 1. What states are affected? At least 18 states will implement changes to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in the new year. Five of them face changes on Jan. 1.

The red states are leading the efforts to prevent obesity by reducing consumption of sugar drinks. They are barring the use of SNAP to buy those drinks. This shouldn’t be a partisan issue. Come on blue states!

For 10,000 years, the human diet has evolved. We’ve traded deficiency diseases like scurvy for chronic challenges like Type 2 diabetes. 🍎 ➡️ 🍔

We explore how ultra-processed foods impact our bodies—and how we can reclaim our health.

What’s your favorite "real food" staple? Let’s hear it! 👇

RFK. Jr. pins America's obesity on ultraprocessed food, calls it "poison" | 60 Minutes
RFK. Jr. pins America's obesity on ultraprocessed food, calls it "poison" | 60 Minutes There are Americans who are "obscenely obese and at the same time malnourished," Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says. He blames ultraprocessed food. "60 Minutes" is the…

Kudos to HHS Secretary RFK Jr. who said on ’60 Minutes’ (www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHO-... ) that the government will reform the process for allowing new ingredients into our food. It’s time to radically change that process, which allows companies (and their paid consultants) to decide what is safe.

Peter Menzel traveled around the globe & asked average families to display the foods they had consumed in a week. Interestingly, the poorer the country, the fewer processed foods they consumed. American families’ displays had mostly soda, chips & other processed foods.

Chiquita Banana - National Food Museum Educational, beautiful song, funny and a bit sexy (1940s, United Fruit Company)

Yay Chiquita!

Most food ads now are for unhealthy packaged foods and restaurant meals, so it’s refreshing to see this ad for—bananas! The ad, shown only in theaters, didn’t preach “low-fat, high-potassium” but was an amusing lesson on how to eat bananas.

Historic Shifts in Nutrition Policies 🏛️

The administration released the updated Dietary Guidelines—the most controversial reset of federal food policy in decades.

Wins for regenerative pilots; losses for SNAP & food safety. Mixed views on meat/alcohol.

A return to 'real food' or ignoring science?

Alcohol Use and Your Health Alcohol impacts our health more than you might think. Here's how.

Hey, #MAHA, #RFKJr: Take on the Booze Industry

Alcohol kills 178K Americans annually! Plus non-fatal spouse abuse, auto crashes, cancers, ruined careers, birth defects, etc. It’s time to support warnings in ads and labels & raising alcohol taxes (not raised since '91).

UPFs likely promote obesity, type 2 diabetes, stroke, kidney disease, and more. Most of the harm may be due to their high sugar, salt, and fat content, but additives might contribute. Kudos to San Francisco for suing 10 companies for the harm their UPFs cause.
