Smoky Garnet Fire sunrise on Whitney just below Trail Camp. There is no part of this trail that isn't spectacular. #mtwhitney #hiking #Sierra #ilovecalifornia
What a gorgeous, cool morning up atop Lukens above the marine layer. This weather is A+. #hiking #losangeles #lukens
The Manitou Incline, for when you want to punish your quads. 2,000 feet of steps in less than a mile. Treated to incredible low clouds and few people thanks to stormy weather! #colorado #hiking
Did you have to change out the webbing? I feel like that particular anchor option isn't used too much? When we were last there it looked pretty tatty on our way by.
Hiking the full Gabrielino, just before Newcomb Pass. Incredible, incredible weather. Love it when there are low clouds. #Gabrielino #sangabriels #hiking #newcombpass
My first look at the Eaton/Muir/Idlehour devastation from the burn area on Wilson. Seeing lots of new growth up here already, but the smell of smoke is still strong. #eatoncanyon #mtwilson #upperwintercreek #hiking #sangabriels
Up Mt. Lukens early to catch the Sea of Clouds before it burned off. Gorgeous weekend weather! #hiking #Clouds #mtlukens #sangabriels #ilovela
Honey bees are domesticated animals introduced from Europe β and aren't endangered, unlike many of North America's over 3600 species of native bees. Honey bees crowd out native bees from food & spread diseases to them. Instead of adding another hive, plant native flowers!

A picture-perfect morning to take the shortcut into Big Tujunga down Josephine Falls. #canyoneering #BigTujunga #Josephine #SanGabriels #ILoveLA
Sunrise over LA from the San Gabriel mts, Mt. Markham, Eaton Saddle
A few months ago, before the Eaton Fire. Sunrise up at Eaton Saddle ... Mt. Markham in front of us and LA in the distance. I'm going to miss this part of the front range so much over these next few years of closure. #sangabriels #eatonsaddle #mtmarkham #hiking #ilovela
A great overview of western Griffith Park from atop Mt. Chapel looking beyond the observatory on the ridge towards downtown and, on the other side, Glendale and the San Gabriels. #griffithpark #hiking #losangeles #iloveLA
One of my favorite moments in any Black Mountains canyon in Death Valley is when you turn a corner and the Badwater Basin comes glowing into view for the first time all day. #canyoneering #styxcanyon #deathvalley #hiking
A spectacular dawn hiking down the approach from Dante's View to North Fork Styx Canyon high above Badwater Basin. #deathvalley #canyoneering #hiking #sunrise
The stunning trail up to Observation point from the Stave Springs trailhead. A better hike than Angel's, imo, and you don't need a permit. #utah #hiking #zion #observationpoint
The marine layer pours through the gap between North and South Anacapa Island - clear on one side, dense fog on the other. #channelislands #anacapa #Losangeles #hiking

Waking up this morning after a long, windy, worrisome night to the smoky skies of the apocalypse. #losangeles #fires

A humbling view of the Badwater below as we climb the steep approach up to Coffin Canyon in Death Valley. #canyoneering #deathvalley
Big daylight moon in Caruthers Canyon in the New York range of the Mojave. One of my most favorite primitive sites to camp at. #mojavenationalpreserve #camping #mojavedesert

Sometimes you hit the early morning hogback just right... when the marine layer is juuuust below the top and low clouds are juuuuust above it. You would never know there was a major metropolis all around you. #griffithpark #hogback #hiking #losangeles
The Mueller Tunnel up at the top of the Eaton drainage cloaked in low clouds. The forest service built it back in '42 to access the fire roads on Mt. Lowe. It closed to cars back in 2009 and is now part of the hiking trail that accesses the Lowe trails. #sangabriels #hiking #clouds #mtlowe

This is a good piece and underscores the importance of adaptation not only to protect lives and livelihoods *today* but to also create political space and support for mitigation policies.

They don't come the other way because we just descended a canyon full of rappels. It's difficult to go 'up' :) Basically a one-way. But there are slot canyons with two-way you can hike (Spooky gulch in Escalante), you just have to stem up and over someone or back up till it widens.
The oft-photographed Moebius Arch in the Alabama Hills below Whitney Portal. Such a cool place! #alabamahills #hiking #sierra #moebiusarch
