The issue is that because dual UK-EU nationals are ineligible for an EES/ETA, they must travel with both passports. That suggests airlines may have to update their booking systems to allow for the passport on the booking to match the travel document. But it's not clear if that is required by law.
Apparently it can be a problem at some airports. I'm thinking about legal challenges that could be brought against airlines that do not allow you to book a return on a different passport to comply with these rules! Still, it would be helpful if the UK gov just told airlines to do it?
Does Mike Tapp have anything to say yet about airlines that don't let dual nationals book return flights with a different passport? As a dual national I'm concerned some airports treat the gate as another 'border' and don't let you on a plane to the UK if you've not booked with your UK passport
Temple Church does a lot of evening classical music concerts and choral services and it always sounds incredible, plus the church itself is really cool
Excellent piece on a topic that I think (as an ex parliamentary staffer) is not discussed enough!
MPs consider casework a way to tick the 'constituency engagement' box, but most emails I saw were campaign emails drafted by PR agencies. The merits of responding to those are...questionable in my view
You are spot on about his powerpoint presentations. I attended one such presentation on election strategy (arguably his forte) and he banged on for ages about an image of an iceberg. I was lost. Then he concluded by telling people to campaign in target seats. I was really not blown away...
This episode of Origin Story is excellent, and a much-needed discussion of what 'Blue Labour' actually is.
It's also incredibly funny, but that might be because 90% of the Maurice Glasman quotes are comedy fodder, eg: 'Workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your SUPPLY chains'
By-elections in the UK somehow feel a bit unusual when George Galloway doesn't stand in them lol
He's the equivalent of plastic bags for liquids in airports: monumentally annoying but near universal
The man is just very ambitious (as are many politicians), and will probably try for selection again.
Not sure there is much more there is to say about Andy Burnham trying to re-enter Westminster than that!
This is arguably more 'brat' from Andy Burnham than whatever Kamala Harris did
What I mean is that it was framed to me as a tax whose cost could be comfortably absorbed. The truth is when you start earning more, or if you seek a higher wage to buy a house, the cost isn't so easily absorbed.
I can now see why the wealthy parents of some of my peers paid their children's fees!
The DfE perhaps had to choose between investment in early years education/childcare and tuition fees. Early years desperately needed investment as did childcare. But that doesn't mean the way things stand with tuition fees is fine.
A 'graduate tax' becomes more of a 'penalty' when you attend university as an investment to access better paid jobs, and then discover how hard it is to get a graduate job and how poorly paid many of them are. The moment you start earning a decent amount, the SLC starts hammering you with tax.
I was once at peace (as someone who matriculated in October 2015) with the fact that tuition fees were a somewhat fine 'graduate tax'. Those who attempted to persuade me on this were older people who hadn't paid a penny to go to university.
Is it just me or does each release of Fallout (TV show) coincide with concerning, vaguely nuke-related, developments in geopolitics?
Makes for a user experience which involves considerable sleep-deprivation.
(Also, isn't Robert House curiously similar to Elon Musk?)
I vaguely remember that scrapping tuition fees was one of Starmer's leadership election promises he wasn't so keen on breaking!
But he did, so my ยฃ60K of student loan debt isn't going away any time soon ๐
Anyhow I now (bizarrely) have some common ground with Kemi Badenoch because she's right to say that Jenrick's expulsion from her party is a good thing for the Conservatives. That man really was a thorn in her side!
For real if anyone told Robert Jenrick he did an Antonio Razzi he would be absolutely mortified to be compared to that man
Honestly these defections to Reform from the Conservatives remind me of all those jokester Italian politicians defected to Berlusconi's Popolo della Liberta including Antonio Razzi (who is worth a Google)
How can you say there is no other "viable proposal" to reduce the backlog in the criminal courts when they haven't even tested whether limiting jury trials work or not.
This isn't a zero sum game. Yes there can be better support for victims but that should never come at the expense of a fair trial.
My totally silly political take is Keir Starmer's fortunes would have been reversed by this point if one of his senior advisors had asked him "Since when did having a political opinion become a bad thing?", whilst crunching a biscuit and walking out of the room.
One, two, three U-turns, prevented.
The chatbot-ification of UK government communications around the Venezuela crisis is a symptom of a country that has been unable to extrapolate itself from over-dependence on the US.
Recent events could not be a better signal that all European countries must band together on defence and security.
Someone tell the Prime Minister to stop saying "laser-focussed" I beg
That adjective literally makes me imagine lasers are protruding from his eyes like some 1980s Dr Who villain
Weirdly the only Labour politician who seems to get how to do short reels is Ed Miliband!
I understand political parties need to engage with TikTok/short video kinds of media but honestly the content aimed at Gen Z that mimics TikTok trends on Labour's Instagram these days is just cringeworthy.
All of the politicians involved look like they're being forced to do it.
Neither, but sometimes, they do!
As an employment lawyer I have to say there is a vast difference on the commentary around the Employment Rights Bill on LinkedIn to the commentary on here.
On here it's all: "pass the bill now, remove the cap!"
On LinkedIn it is: "thank goodness for the House of Lords"
100% agree with this!
Nooooo!!! I'm in the 55% because I don't understand stock markets and I am extremely risk averse
Don't think we should be prodding savers to incentivise investment, educate them on stocks and shares first!
Also I lost money from my old Nutmeg account, so...
