I like the story (confirmed by those who were in the office) of how Bill Gaines told the head of the Comics Code Authority that, in addition to suing him and the CCA, he’s going to hold a press conference and tell everyone why that organization wants the story banned. The CCA backed down.

The Earthman named Tarlton is revealed to be black. THE END - The Amazing World of DC Comics #6, June 1975; reprinting one of Joe Orlando's favorite stories; "Judgement Day" from Weird Fantasy #18 (1953) by William Gaines, Al Feldstein and Joe Orlando.
The final twist to "Judgement Day", one of the most important stories ever published by EC Comics and comics in general.
After the issue ran, EC got tons of letters praising them for the ending and many others denouncing it.
To those who disagreed with the story, Gaines told them all to fuck off.
