Meaning he'll keep making movies that connect with people, and yet he himself won't truly understand why they do, and won't make any attempt to better himself through self-reflection.
It's a bummer.
And that's what makes it frustrating that he'll probably continue to make good, emotionally resonant movies! Because he'll continue to pull those genuine feelings out of himself and put them on screen, and yet not understand WHY those are the ideas he's expressing.
Speaking as a cishet white guy myself...perhaps there's a part of that "write what you know" stuff that's being complicated by a lack of genuine introspection among cishet white guy creatives? They're writing what they know, but they're not thinking about WHY that's what they know.
And of course there's the ur-example of this, George Lucas, who on one hand seems more genuine in his storytelling decisions than a big corporation or more conventional storyteller, and on the other hand does stuff in later entries that seems to thematically contradict or weaken older ones.
It's this fascinating wrinkle of "do you understand what it is that you made?". You've brought this up previously on the podcast in regards to Brad Bird, where the way he describes his films in interviews doesn't seem to match the emotional and thematic content of the films themselves.

Ifrit did come to me! Thank you for stopping by @benstarr.bsky.social! Made my con!
And it works as a secondary Harrison Ford reference too, because doesn't that also recall Indy vs the scimitar guy?
BLOWJOB BROTHERS EVERYWHERE FOR THOSE WITH EYES TO SEE
The anthrocon/furry episode of The Pitt has spoken.

OG Casey Jones basically being Travis Bickle is...a little freaky.
Believe.
Picked up a cute Switch Pro controller (we only have one, and our Joycons have been acting up today), the triple set of the WILD ROBOT books, and some Culver's. Now it's time to head home.

...forward also aware of the exact same information we were given. To axe the present-flashback-present structure, you'd also have to remove the post-coma amnesia aspect entirely.
That's not an uncommon story structure at all, and in MOST cases you can just remove it for a standard chronological narrative.
The problem is, the flashing back it DIEGETIC. Ryland is, in the present, receiving the flashback in question, and once we finish reading it, Ryland is from that point...
A little more PROJECT HAIL MARY today.
I do wonder how the movie is going to handle the book's structure. Ryland wakes up already in space with amnesia, and then the book alternates between that present and the past leading up to him on the ship.

YES, exactly. Always there to perfectly execute the assignment.
It's more like "if you didn't get her loyalty quest done and/or you assigned her to the wrong role during the final mission". My very first Mass Effect playthrough was of 2, and got her killed, which I made sure to never repeat again.
I'l have to check out the film, but as for Mass Effect, yeah! If you got Tali killed in ME2, she actually becomes the full-on lead of Tali's questline in ME3, like Urdnot Wreav replacing Wrex in ME2 if you killed him in ME1.
God, she's the best. I should familiarize myself with more of her filmography, because she's definitely one of those "oh it's THEM, hell yeah!" actors.
Her voicing the dragon in Netflix's "feminist retelling of a princess and dragon" movie DAMSEL is almost worth the price of admission alone.

BuzzFeed is currently deleting Kyra Kupetsky's tweets about the situation.
Deleted follow-up message:
Well, in better animation news, HELL YEAH
Please be an adaptation of Peter Brown's THE WILD ROBOT ESCAPES and not some sort of original thing.
Absolutely criminal on Buzzfeed's part. I always look forward to these shorts.
Absolutely devastated to have to deliver this news.
I have loved working at BuzzFeed so much but I have to stand up for what I believe in.
Please DO NOT send hate to anyone!
If anything changes regarding this, I will let you know.
