They can easily state which countries Swiss authorities partner with—if I can find that information, so can they!—otherwise the statement is effectively useless.
Which is why I think Proton could and should make it EVEN clearer, despite how easily the understanding came to you, personally. Like, openly list the countries your gov is currently cooperating with, for instance. Yes, people can and should do research, also. But what if . . . they didn't have to?

I think they could and should make it much, MUCH clearer that handing over to swiss authorities = handing over to the US authorities.

I'm not Swiss. If they are bound by Swiss law to hand over my information to the US than the service is not as described. We are in danger here and Proton is making money off of those fears.
Proton indicates that this is not a possibility when selling their services. If they HAVE TO turn it over, then they are no different than any other service.
