The fundamental difference here is that trans people are not asking for something new, we're asking for our current protections to not be stripped away. Bostock is the already the law of the land. Access to gender affirming care or even competing in sports were available for decades.
It was in those spaces, in the late 2010s, that I realized that the fundamentalist Christians I’d grown up with weren’t the only people enforcing rigid ideas about how others should think. After arriving in New York with mainstream Democratic views, I took classes heavy on critical theories that fixated on identity categories and reflexively decried capitalism and the West. Within influential LGBTQ organizations, gay rights had given way to radical queer politics, and academic theories about sex and gender had hardened into doctrine. Widespread revulsion toward Donald Trump had narrowed the boundaries of permissible discussion on the left. The more Trump and his followers opposed something, the more we were supposed to support it. The prevailing view was that any debate within our side would become ammunition for the right.
For a long time, I feared that if I didn’t keep my thoughts to myself, I would lose the only community I’d ever really belonged in. As controversy flared up nationally about pediatric gender medicine, though, I started voicing concerns, rooted in my own experiences, over what looked to me like a rush to medical treatment. For all the sloganeering about protecting trans kids, I heard no discussion about protecting effeminate gay boys from unnecessary medicalization. When I and others asked whether progressive norms might be nudging effeminate gay boys to think of themselves as girls, no one wanted to hear it. Instead of answers, we were given the LGBTQ community’s official line. “Gender identity and sexual orientation are two different things,” the Human Rights Campaign asserts. But the confidence with which people claim that the two have nothing to do with each other is hard to square with research findings: According to data collected mostly before the recent surge in pediatric-dysphoria diagnoses, most prepubescent children who experienced gender distress went on to experience same-sex attraction and ultimately did not pursue a gender transition. Of 70 adolescents whom Dutch clinicians subjected to puberty suppression from 2000 to 2008, the overwhelming majority were attracted exclusively to people of their biological sex.
Straightforward right-wing agitprop. The idea that thousands of kids were pushed into gender-affirming surgeries because the left shuts down debate is a laughable conspiracy theory. The overwhelming social pressure is to be cis, not trans!

This week it was uncovered that the Trump regime is trying to "cure" trans prisoners of being transgender, while doing everything they can - from labeling our mere existence as explicit to stripping us of our legal documents - to ensure we *all* end up imprisoned in their ever-growing camps.
This last year we have seen a radical shift in the public anti-trans rhetoric, seeing less attempts to justify attacks on our rights with palatable lenses like protecting children, and more moves like Kansas' attack on all trans people based on nothing but hate.

This is the flip side of the hyper focus on trans issues by the right. The national media ignores what's actually being done to trans people.
This erasure is what contributes to the persecution.

I'm trying to imagine how I would feel if I received a letter saying my license was invalid because the state decided I'm not my gender, and then strangers said, well, "just" go get a new one with someone else's gender.
I have literally no patience for anyone saying that trans Kansans "just" have to go to the DMV and get a new license. There was no time given for that. There was no process in place for that. There were letters sent out to some people whose licenses were invalidated, but not all.
I'm not going to lie - it's extremely troubling to me that this law and its obvious implications hasn't dominated national news for the weeks since its passing.
It is very hard not to have a safe choice to use the bathroom in public.
It may be impossible to continue living, working, eating, etc without a valid driver's license if your life was built around driving and the assumption that your license wouldn't be invalidated overnight by the legislature.

Abi Boatman, a Wichita Democrat and the only transgender member of the Legislature, who received the [Kansas Dept of Revenue] notice on Wednesday.” To underscore that: a Kansas state legislator is among those whose driver’s license will be voided. Being a trans journalist is going to work and having to cover how your life is now illegal in your state but also at the same time make sure someone else writes the story so no one can accuse you of being biased and a "trans activist" and then they do the story and you still get accused of it.

Tl;dr I could have been excited about the thing if I hadn't seen it enter the world as a smug assault on human creativity, hadn't been relentlessly lied to about its capabilities, hadn't watched it fill the internet with misinformation, hadn't had so many products I use made worse by it, etc etc etc
The idea that "the left" ought to embrace a tech that is at this point functionally designed to help the right achieve its goals reflects either cluelessness about tech's current cultural stakes or conscious bad faith
