So I just got a statement from California AG Bonta's office:
"Paramount/Warner Bros is not a done deal. These two Hollywood titans have not cleared regulatory scrutiny β€” the California Department of Justice has an open investigation, and we intend to be vigorous in our review"

Then to top it all off, her caring "family" puts her on public display in front of millions and allows the president to lie about everything that has happened to her. That poor soul.

Politicians are being sold AI-powered 'digital fighters' A new app gets around bot bans by recruiting real people to post political messages generated by AI.

Very dystopian stuff:

Canadian political candidates are getting pitched on signing up their supporters for apps that scan social media for negative comments about them, use AI to come up with counternarratives then post AI-generated comments defending them from their real human supporters’ accounts

I felt for Sage. No matter what her truth is, her parent's decision to expose her to a public spectacle was awful. Hope she's okay.

The first is that the Liberal government screwed the pooch on immigration; this is now a fairly consensus opinion β€” and one we’ve talked about at some length here at The Line. It’s no particular mystery to us why the longstanding pan-partisan consensus on immigration is breaking. In short, we’ve taken on far too many, especially temporary foreign workers and questionable international β€œstudents,” without any real plan for how to improve basic infrastructure or social services to compensate. The problem, here, is a real one. And all of the provinces β€” not just Alberta β€” are struggling to keep up.

That acknowledged, it is nothing short of appalling for a government to blame immigration for its own fiscal mismanagement especially when that same government has been welcoming and even demanding that immigration until all of five seconds ago.

I'm getting very tired of this framing. The only reason there is "consensus" that the Liberals screwed up immigration is because we are allergic to holding any premier to account for a) demanding more immigration; b) doing fuck all about housing and healthcare; and c) let scam colleges run amok. 1/

What motivation do you attribute to detaining a 65yo UK citizen with no history of criminality & a valid visitor's visa then? She & her husband were leaving the US & only lacked the proper paperwork for the rental car. Him maybe (expired visa). But her? Why? I hope you're right but I doubt it.

Read the full transcript of Carney’s speech to World Economic Forum - National | Globalnews.ca Prime Minister Mark Carney gave a forceful speech in Davos, Switzerland, on the 'new world order' and how middle powers like Canada can benefit by working together.

Mark Carney's speech in Davos. A must-read for anyone hoping to go back.

"We know the old order is not coming back. We shouldn’t mourn it. Nostalgia is not a strategy, but we believe that from the fracture we can build something bigger, better, stronger, more just."
