I left the UK in the 1980s when I was a student and couldn't afford to eat out then, except for fish and chips or maybe Chinese takeaway. Now I've retired and would like to revisit my homeland but still wouldn't be able to order even a pub meal!

How does anyone in the UK afford to eat out? Just checked the prices of pub grub in a provincial town (Leeds) and you pay the same in pounds as we do in Aussie dollars: 18 for a burger, 25-30 for a steak. That's 87% higher. Won't be going 'home' at those prices

Here's a bit of AI realism from ChatGPT: "To replace the weekly oil tanker flow through the Strait of Hormuz using trucks from Dubai to Fujairah would require about 1.7–2.1 million tanker-truck trips per week, or 3-4 per second, which is logistically unrealistic."

Queensland says it's tough on hate speech and arrests an 18-year-old student for wearing a shirt that says "from the river, to the sea." Meanwhile the state's One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson, who said there are no "good" Muslims, remains unscathed and even gets a boost in polling.

Up to $1.4 billion in medical research remains unused under government cap Researchers say securing funding has become increasingly tough, with many left with no choice but to spend a disproportionate amount of time applying for grants.

In 2014 Ross Gittins described the MRFF as an accounting trick (www.smh.com.au/business/med...) to hide deficits rather than fund more medical research. How right he was www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03...

This should be interesting: Wham manager Simon Napier Bell has dug out all the unused footage (much of it in Chinese) from their China tour in 1985 and had it edited into a new documentary that will be on Netflix in a few weeks www.facebook.com/share/p/18Jt...

Looking back at the March 1981 singles charts to see it was kept out of the top 40 by Tony Capstick and the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band ... and The Nolans.
