good. big ass truck abundance is climate arson.
Every time I sit waiting for imaginary cars at a red light on my bike in the rain I think about how Seattle spends millions of dollars on intelligent traffic signals to save drivers a few seconds but doesn't program them to skip or shorten left turns based on car detections.
In Connecticut, legislation that bans multilevel buildings with only a single means of egress recently passed both chambers of the General Assembly. "We are glad that our friends in the state legislature are listening to our concerns and preventing the construction of multilevel buildings with a single stairwell," said Peter Brown, president of the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association (UPFFA) of Connecticut. "Allowing fire fighters and residents to go in opposite directions on the same set of stairs creates bottlenecking and other potential disasters. Having a second set of stairs is a critical safety feature during a fire."
Funny IAFF blog post where they show a total misunderstanding of the building code. They clearly do not understand that single-stair buildings up to three stories have long been and remain legal in Connecticut. www.iaff.org/news/states-...
are you on municode? i was just looking the other day - i don't think it's been updated yet?
The Trump administration took your money illegally.
They wonβt give it back.
i could not believe urbanists would link to his writing. it was always bad.
alas, destroyed the climate first
'whoa, a republican administration is worse than i expected'
This need to be called out at perpetuating sexist policies that privilege bikers without child carrying, errand running responsibilities. Caltrain would never consider banning kids from trains, why is it ok to make it impossible for parents who travel bike to use the system?
In the SOTU Trump claimed gas prices were as low as $1.85, so by his logic, he own war has more than doubled the cost of gas. Ruh-roh. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/06/b...

the beauty of soup is you can eat it when it's hot out
Reading oil & gas industry analysts thoughts on the catastrophic consequences of a prolonged Middle East war, and I guess the bright side is that it might dramatically accelerate the transition to solar?
things every single republican president of your lifetime has done
- started a war in the middle east
- completely destroyed the economy
Chat is this good?
in the corridors update?
It's 1992, there's a Republican president with a war in the middle east and a recession.
It's 2008, there's a Republican president with a war in the middle east and a recession.
It's 2026, there's a Republican president with a war in the middle east...

Today, we examine how cities consistently overestimate the rate at which seniors downsize their homes while simultaneously incentivizing them not to downsize, and how this creates a shortage of family-sized homes for young families.

Waymo is now blocking the only eastbound through lane on Townsend, a key SF arterial. AVs have a scaling problem in cities. This isn't just inconvenience but a loss of network capacity. Waymo cuts SF's ability to move people and goods in its streets. User convenience β system efficiency
going to be great having another pro-housing and pro-transit elected representing seattle.
i've talked a fair bit about the tangible benefits to residents living in passivhaus social housing - and how it pivots living in urban areas toward a focus on improved public health outcomes, climate adaptation, and affordability
but today i had a conversation that sort of blew my mind
