On the Ethics of Seeing in the Artistic Process

The ethics of seeing begin where mere perception transforms into conscious, mindful observation. In my artistic work, I understand myself not only as a creator but also as an observer of my own processes. Each of my works follows a planned procedure, yet this path is always shaped by a variety of influences—be they technical in nature, distractions, or interruptions that repeatedly restructure the flow of work.

It is precisely these moments of pausing—moments of reflection and visual breaks—that are of particular importance to me. They are not simply empty spaces, but rather valuable intervals in which the work can be viewed and understood in its current state. In these pauses, experience and reflection condense; they make it possible to gain distance and to see what has been created with fresh eyes. In this way, the work is advanced through condensation and renewed contemplation, until a point is reached at which it can be considered complete.

I am reluctant to make aesthetic judgments. Nothing appears truly ugly or useless to me. Rather, I regard every state of a work, every trace of the process, as legitimate and meaningful. This attitude resists hasty categorization and opens the view to the potential inherent in every artistic expression.

For me, the responsibility of seeing lies not only in consuming or evaluating, but in engaging—with the work, with the process, and with my own perceptions and doubts. This responsibility is not only moral in nature but also an expression of sensitivity and openness.

Furthermore, the ethics of seeing also arise in dialogue with others. The way works are viewed, shared, and discussed shapes artistic interaction and society’s perception of art. Thus, I understand the ethics of seeing as an open, living practice that continually evolves—just like art itself.

I will be giving up my entire ETH portfolio and crypto art collection. I would like to hand over this collection to an art historian, as I am convinced that an analysis of my early works has something meaningful to contribute to art history.
Interested parties can write here or try to send me a pm.
