Was always inevitable Labour would need to move on youth mobility, and that would probably be part of an overall package. There's nothing else that's new in this long report, for ambition to remove SPS barriers doesn't make that happen...

Today I argue that the fusion of Big Tech and politics in the Tony Blair Institute is causing trouble for both The Royal Society and Keir Starmer.
Millions of research articles are absent from major digital archives. This worrying finding, which Nature reported on earlier this year, was laid bare in a study by Martin Eve, who studies technology and publishing at Birkbeck, University of London.
Did you know that Indian higher education has now achieved gender parity?

I think about this a lot as I'm panicking in my shower.

I'm honoured to have been asked to deliver the opening plenary at HESPA's Autumn Conference next week, and I can honestly say that it has been one of the most interesting presentations I've worked on for a long while.
If there are any HESPA peeps on BlueSky - I hope you like it!
Thanks Andrew - just seen it. Will follow that up with you.
I can see that. Musing: would UCEA see it as important enough to make supplying it to us a condition on your membership, do you think? I'd be interested in your thoughts on this, possibly on a call if you and colleagues are willing to explore it.
I was just being lighthearted. The idea of a republic is good, but I imagine we'd have to pay too much attention to it for too long for it to end in anything other than a fudge or a disaster. Whereas having a constitution that is as vague as ours keeps us all on our toes.
This makes an alumnus very proud.
Gotta ask who the "we" would be in this scenario. Can you be sure that Wales has not already seceded *in Welsh*?
You'd be pretty close to the cut of their jib with that misreading tbf
Staff data? We're preparing a consultation on that at the moment. I can imagine the optional coverage of non-academic staff is bit of a pain for UCEA.
For anyone who wants to educate themselves about how the devolved elements of the UK's constitution work one-enigma-at-a-time, I've just seen that @thatsdevolved.bsky.social have joined us on BlueSky!
It is taking a commitment to living in the past a little too fervently.
I did it! I wrote up my Posting Middle Classes Theory, and tried to explain why I think Threads failed where Bluesky succeeded: youngvulgarian.substack.com/p/down-in-th... (free to read)
I am flattered that you think that people _inside_ the UK might understand the constitution! It is my firm belief that the fact that most of us don't understand it very completely is the only reason it continues to function at all.
So lovely.
Two glasses of Beaujolais Nouveau next to an open bottle of the same.
Just arrived from The Wine Society this minute. Bottoms up!
A half case of 2024 Beaujolais Nouveau
Did someone mention that it is Beaujolais Nouveau night?
