My current 8 year old pc build is certainly going to be my last windows build. I’m tired of being advertised to, exploited and merged into a data pool for corporate gain, Windows stopped offering solutions and became the problem.

For companies, you are using their code, I don't need to argue that it has value to you, if it didn't have value you wouldn't be using it, just show the developers and maintainers that you recognise them and their work, and prop up the foundations you are built on.
They want to encourage companies that use open source code, to think of the maintainers and developers and reward them, give them an incentive so it doesn't feel thankless. Then, the developers have more gusto to keep developing, keep maintaining for a healthy ecosystem.
Because you've stopped other systems fail. You feel a sense of responsibility, but that responsibility doesn't go both ways. They don't feel responsible for your mental health or your quality of life. With Drips' continuous dependency funding they want to encourage companies to change.
Then you keep slaving away, no one thanks you, but they all depend on you. It takes up your evenings and your weekends. Then there is a security risk, and you're up in the middle of the night so that companies products remain online. Then you're tired. So you decide, I've had enough, and you stop.
A real solution for #opensource?
People argue open source is free, why should I pay for it. But so many platforms exist on a bedrock of open source. Imagine you're a #developer, you create something because it was a fun problem to solve, but then you're expected to maintain it... forever!
