Okay, the bugs bunny one was the winner for me, but this is DEFINITELY the winner!

Marco Rubio's notorious oversized Florsheims.
I definitely don't think Marco Rubio is one of the greatest secretaries of state of all time, but I will concede that, when he leaves office, there will be some mighty big shoes to fill.
This is a very interesting analogy, and very apt; another dimension is I think the opinions of these two groups of each other will evolve; fewer passive racists and non-racists and more avowed racists and anti-racists week after week.
My bet is that 38/62 approve/ disapprove is the absolute floor for the WH. The best possibility is the 62 percent are all in favor of impeachment and removal.
They're back in Burque!
Cousin Carol Bove has built up a body of installation, sculpture , and visual works. An article about one exhibit thanks to eagle eyed kin @janehammons.bsky.social . Thanks!
Mekka's metric is that half of USA white voters-- around 38 percent of all-- will support anything supported by the more racist USA party no matter what it is.
@mekka.mekka-tech.com 's 38% principle illustrated in a stark example.
I will be very surprised if it goes under 30% or even35%. That's probably our floor. Since the civil rights act, at least half of white Americans have always essentially supported whichever leader of a national party was more racist, no matter what. Nixon went under that for only a few weeks.
A guy who sat behind me at Albuquerque High School in Civics class and would stab me with a needle on the end of a pencil sometimes ended up machine-gunning a wall of the white house. www.gettyimages.com/detail/video...
Railway Telegraph operator and talk radio host (voice of the uaw). Grandmothers were an attorney and a literal irish washerwoman.
Alex is clearly an academic at heart:
he doesn't so much have a question as a cormorant.
And it's a beautiful cormorant.
Around half of American white people (38%) are aligned with whatever the more racist of white ideological/political leaders in the country no matter what they do. That is pretty much unchanged since just after Watergate.
For followers of @mekka.mekka-tech.com : just like you'll always see close to a 38% minimum for approve, you'll see a 62% maximum for disapprove/disagreement. I've seen a bunch of 62%. Going to write them down.
Summary: you are never going to convince the, say, 1/3 of those Americans on the right nor the, say, 1/10 or so on the left that hate a group (Black and Brown people, Jews respectively); you can adjust the fear and conviction (slowly) of the people that accommodate each group of haters.
2/2 I think the haters and accommodators have different numbers and ratios on right and left; >20% of Americans -- a LOT of white Americans -- have conscious and specific anti-black views; another nearly 30% don't want that 20% to think they are intolerant of them. Their fear can be challenged.
1/2 "Fine with antisemitism" is neither wrong nor unfair, but may not describe the problem where a useful wedge can be put in. In practice, there are some people who believe anti-semitism, and a few times as many people who are reluctant to disqualify or criticize people for antisemitism.
Is the New York Times opinion page going to show a modicum of leadership on foreign policy with who they put forward?

Yeah, I doubt that also.
Unrelated to the politics -- when I was a grad student at Duke, NCSU destroyed Duke in the conference finals. All of the staff were Wolfpack fans; the head Admin of the department asked me conspiratorially.
"Game was really good -- you see it?"
"did Duke win?"
"oh, no..." BIG SMILE
Hasn't there already been losses there? Seems like he wants to avoid the electoral poison because they would likely balk.
That bloke on the left tho!

Jesse Jackson reading "Green Eggs and Ham" is so wonderful. RIP
Absolutely. This gets closer to what is on my mind all the time, which are the feedback loops that promote oligarchy, racism, sexism, and general fear by the power in the edges between nodes of powerful groups, hate-or-fear-ridden populaces, social and economic isolation, etc.
2/ Here, I don't know, it's a strong feeling and I wish I could research it -- I think a significant part of it is less about widespread US white racial rage than it is about white deference. For example, how the Sweden Democrats or the AfD can't find coalition partners -- no equivalent here.
1/ Somebody should definitely research it (I would pay real money to help make it happen); one thing that strikes me is that the pattern IS, in fact, inherent to significant minorities of white voters in Europe and Canada; it's only in e.g. US, ZA, ISR where it is inherent to a _majority_.
What you say 100%! And still it's important to remember there is no ethnic electoral college, so the difference between support of 43% of white voters that openly share hopes with others (Obama 2008) and 37% of white voters that don't speak up in white spaces (Harris 2024) is huge for society.
The cleverest, the most imaginative, the bravest, and the most ambitious women and men in the world cross deserts and oceans and jump over huge hurdles for a chance to make our country even richer in exchange for a tiny part of what they provide. How dumb are Americans that try to stop them?
Musk was so many layers of wrong. English, Ulster Irish, and Scots are quite outnumbered by Irish Catholics and Germans among white folks; and the non-white folks that are here either preceded their white neighbors (Native Americans, Mexicans)or are, if anything, MORE American than us German/Irish.
