OPI's training teaches facilitators to hold space for deep inner work, shadow integration, and transformative insight.
Carl Jung believed that healing requires us to face our unconscious selvesβthe parts of we donβt yet understand. His work laid the foundation for much of modern psychology and deeply influences the field of psychedelic-assisted therapy.
We donβt just study altered statesβwe study how to stay open once we return, and for many of us, itβs the forest, the sky, the path beneath our feet that makes that possible.
Science is our foundation. Nature is our reminder.
While OPIβs curriculum is grounded in research and evidence, itβs also shaped by the wisdom of nature.

Not only did participants report lasting increases in well-being, compassion, and life satisfaction, but friends and family noticed these changes too. This study helped spark a major shift in how the scientific community views psychedelics.
In 2006, a landmark study at Johns Hopkins led by Dr. Roland Griffiths found that psilocybin can lead to deeply meaningful, mystical-type experiences. Two months after their session, most participants described the experience as one of the top five most meaningful of their lives.

3/4: βThereβs nothing in consciousness that can hurt you. So what you want to do is be deeply curious and, if anything, approach it.β Griffithsβ work continues to inspire healing through psychedelics, leaving a legacy that reshaped the field of psychedelic science.
2/4: His research revealed that psilocybin could induce profound, mystical experiences, leading to lasting positive changes in mental health. After being diagnosed with terminal colon cancer, he embraced the insights he had studied, finding peace and gratitude in the face of mortality.
1/4: Roland Griffiths (1946-2023) was a pioneer in psychedelic research, dedicating his career to studying psilocybinβs therapeutic potential. His work at Johns Hopkins challenged conventional views, showing its ability to treat depression, addiction, and end-of-life anxiety.
Weβve heard it said that psychedelic therapy can be thought of as a subcategory of music therapy. While that might underplay the importance of the medicine, it points to the importance of intentionally selected soundtracks!
ββ¦youβre actually seeing a smaller placebo effect for psychedelics than with antidepressants, which is interesting because typically people are worried that the placebo effects for psychedelics are too highβ
2/2: Psychedelics offer a powerful new lens through which psychiatry could observe, explore, and heal the psyche in profound and unprecedented ways.

1/2: Grof understood that psychedelics, when carefully administered, could dramatically deepen our understanding of the human mind and mental healthβjust as the microscope revolutionized biology or the telescope transformed astronomy by enabling discoveries that were previously impossible.
2/2: That being said, the remote setting of Joseph, Oregonβsurrounded by the Wallowa mountains, the beautiful Wallowa Lake, and wide open skiesβoffers an unparalleled container for learning, healing & connecting with nature.
1/2: Optimizing set & setting is the most important step a person can take before embarking on a psych*delic experience.
In the case of psilocybin, itβs enzymes in the liver (CYP-450) that dephosphorylate psilocybin into its active formβpsilocin.
Itβs this molecule, psilocin, that has consciousness-altering effects on the brain!
#psilocybin #psilocin
π§ If psilocybin could make its way to the brain, it would have no effect.
Thatβs because psilocybin is a PRODRUG, a molecule that needs to be converted (by the body) into an active drug.
2/2: ββ¦He said Gracias and Hohn were committed to reinvesting any profits they make back in the company, and in particular, bringing MDMA-assisted therapy to βIndia and Africa.ββ
1/2: βDoblin seemed hopeful for Lykosβs future, and confirmed that he had brokered a recent deal where billionaires Antonio Gracias and British hedge fund manager Christopher Hohn will become majority owners of the companyβ¦

2/2: His 12-volume Florentine Codex became one of the most detailed ethnographic records of the time, preserving Indigenous knowledge for centuries.
His work reminds us how vital it is to honor and preserve cultural traditions.
