in fairness, the 81 Challenger probably better represents the abomination that was 4e. 5e maybe was one of the Shelby performance package ones from the mid 80s.
That's not to say there weren't TERRIBLE 80s fantasy films, or that you can't have fun with D&D. The recent Honor Among Thieves actually captured our 80s/90s Realms campaign feel pretty well.
It's just the entire mechanics & feel of 5e makes me feel like when Dodge called a 1981 Omni a "Charger".🤷♂️

where has an elemental tanked 6 separate bursts from an AC5? That's 5 damage per burst (which I think is a 3 shot burst), and a standard elemental has 10 pts armor, plus 1 pt for the meat?
GlitterBoy is fastest until it shoots, then it's totally immobile. Also a couple cyclone missiles nail the boom gun? No weaponry while the Terminator still has scads.
Terminator & Glitterboy's both have armor material science far beyond the Elemental and t800. Also jump or no? Elementals run 10kph.

I had the idea of fitting a cockpit into a 'mech. I read that the Red Corsair's Battlemaster had a twin seat affair with a command console, so I got a 3rd edition plastic mini and started hacking!

an Elemental literally got killed by rebar launched off a leafspring scorpion.
While Terminators have literally been stepped on by Titans & survived.
Genestealers are about the one thing that seem to them & a Terminator is to a Space Marine what a Clan Tech Assault mech is to a 3025 Light.
Glitterboy is completely immobile while firing.
Unlike an Elelmental, a 40K Terminator is essential a high Megadamage suit. They tank hits from weapons that Battlemechs wish they could make.
If the Gboy loses it's gun, it's a punching bag.
Material science for 40K & RIFTs far outstrip Btech.
Many of her drones found themselves aware and fully sentient. Not all, it seemed that some had deeper psychic potential than others, and the more evolved the more powerful.
But even some Scouts and Troopers found themselves with at least low level human IQ and free will.
Spot is one such example.
After the Regis left, she discovered the remnants of the Protoculture Matrix near the Calgary Rift of Rifts earth.
But something amazing happened, the latent psychic energy locked within the flower of life exploded to it's full potential, w/ many Troopers becoming full awakened in this new land.
