I never post these Frankenstein monstrosities but it felt personal to see the trusty ERII pillar box on my local shopping parade undergoing the change this week. Frustrating, especially with a perfectly good Post Office nearby. 😢

Lessons from ‘Letters to Loved Ones’ A project transcribing letters from WWII brought history to life.

I recently finished a 3-month project transcribing letters and documents for an IWM / DCMS project marking the 80th anniversary of VE / VJ Day.

It was a moving and fascinating project.

Here’s a Cassandra-like warning: If/when they want to privatise The Royal Mail, fight like h*ll against it. Denmark is now on its second month without our old national postal service, and to say that the private company DAO that has taken over, is botching it, would be a huge understatement.

Unfortunately it’s too late. Royal Mail has been privatised already. So sorry to hear about the mess in Denmark. I did write to Kim Pedersen. Could Denmark’s citizens too?

👑📮⏳30 YEARS AGO

EDWARD VIII - reigned less than a year; few postboxes were made in his name
ORIGINAL LOCATION - Installed in Liverpool in 1936
REPAIRED - the fix to the collection plate holder has been there nearly half the box's lifetime!
