Notes about scanning film with DXO filmpac Fuji superior neg film

Notes about scanning film with DXO filmpac Fuji superior neg film

I d/l a trial of DXO filmpac which has some great tone & colour controls & an invert function. Which is not quite up to the level of NegLabPro yet but the flexibility of what it can do is better. As convenient as it is I’m not fully happy with camera scans but DXO FP is quite compatable with VueScan

Yoshitomo Nara a Japanese Artist created the Gentle Puppy with its own permanent kennel in the museum of modern art Aomori. It’s quite an incredible sight. Not quite sure what the lass front is thinking but it doesn’t seem gentle !

I sort of remember that view there always seemed to be a good pub close to the railway stations in Lancashire

In a similar vein I’m going back and rescanning negs from the same era only to find prints with more detail and better colour than in the original prints from 1980. It’s a slow process using LR on a 20 odd yr old Mac, then retouched in Affinity and sharpened in DXO Pro Lab

Mt Fuji at 285km per hour captured on Fujifilm 400 on a Pentax MX with a Tamron SP Super Performance 35-80 zoom in 1980. This film along with a dozen others was processed and arrived with some very very average prints. Recently rescanned Neg Lab pro for the conversion then denoised in DXO photo lab

Noticed on Ali Express ‘Vibe colour film’ It says 27 exposures ISO to 800 AUD 15.91 Per roll cheaper for 5 etc Any guesses what it is, any one tried it? Ali has a shifty pricing database so
it may be different for others!

Ah! the Passport Sling I’m on my third and just the right depth for a TLR + a Fuji +a 2nd lens. I have yet to find a better bag, tried a Peak & Wotan but always come back top load LowePro is the only 1 for walking… Have a good trip

When all’s said & done a 10x8 or larger print be it darkroom or inkjet is my preferred size to view. As much I love, say, a silver gelatine print, medium to high end ink jets have greater depth in the blacks. What’s more really good printers are not that expensive now. Cheaper than a darkroom…

A dragon kiln, the last one in Singapore produced 1000’s of plant pots with each firing. Managing one of these beasts was in itself a real art and a fascinating thing to see. Fuji film on a Pentax SV or MX

Ive never used D23 & I commend you taking it to the standard you’ve achieved. However the best neg quality I have ever seen & had with Ilford films consistently comes from DD-X then slightly less IQ from LC-29. & so on down to the cheapest ID11 This has nowt to do with the image made just the neg!

Loading a pottery kiln

Loading a pottery kiln

Unloading a kiln at Royal Crown Derby. This film is going to get a bath any larger than this and it looks like it’s been sand blasted. Taken in the late 80’s Pentax

Yes the Pentax 645 has the best affordable interchangeable glass available especially when one considers that all the 6x7 glass can be used as well. I sold mine & some of the lenses intending to buy a Rollei wide 1st series which I still have to find! Saw & handled a GX wide in JPN but very pricey🫣
