a snippet of a mini-comic, at top - straight line stretches from point A to B. Immediately below, same dot at A, then becomes a curving, meandering line that winds through the page and ends at a point with rays and a question mark emanating from it. Text reads: "Nothing can do this for you - for that robs you of experience and conflates answers with learning. Rather, it's all the decisions you make along the way, the mistakes, struggles, and surprises! These pathways you create - this is learning.

An original Nashville sit-in member, along with Diane Nash, James Bevel, and John Lewis. Trained in non-violence by James Lawson. At age 21, he signed a will before the Freedom Rides, knowing he could die.

May his soul be at peace, and may we all have such courage in the face of oppression.

you can impeach people after they've been removed from office for the crimes they did while in office and the failure to do so to george w. bush is one of the reasons we wound up here

Deeply evil and not at all the case when I began teaching in 1999. You wouldn't have much left over, but you could eat without having a side hustle.

Everyone my age and older needs to call out the ridiculously low wages being paid to PK-12 practitioners these days.

why are you hiring a postdoc if generative AI can do everything you claim it can?

Years ago our admin did a red and black report. It took salaries & how much $ each instructor made in tuition $ for classes we taught-you were in the red or black. They released numbers once & shut it down bc humanities were producing huge $ for uni & engineers, business and scientists were losing $

This is one of the key reasons that I have a no generative AI policy in each of my classes. I do not want students, many of whom are already stressed and vulnerable, slipping into this predicament. It is also why I design my classes for students to talk to & work with each other to reduce isolation.

~45 minutes outside Minneapolis this afternoon, a small but spirited crowd is gathered to protest outside the gates of Sherburne County Jail.

According to organizers: the jail has held an average of 131 ICE detainees daily for nearly 20 years. As of 2023, the jail makes $110 per detainee per day.

Bronze Age swords and arrowheads dating back almost 4,000 years are seized by CBP in Philly Considered cultural artifacts, the items were imported into the United States without proper permitting, and were likely the product of “illicit excavations of burial sites,” federal officials said.

Lawrence Summers Will Resign From Harvard After Epstein Revelations

I'm glad to see accountability for academia's bad apples. But I also hope that resignations like this one won't be the end of the story. Because we still need to reckon with how the structures and cultures in "elite" academia have created ripe conditions for rot. 1/🧵

Real science includes understanding how you are situating your work and how what you learn from your research fits in that realm. A lit review allows scholars to think in new ways, make important connections, and improve their work.

I have no trust in scholars who want to outsource this process.

Rewiring Democracy Now: Switzerland shows us an alternative to corporate AI Public AI must counterbalance corporate AI

AI causes real harms - water, electricity, exploitation of workers or elimination of jobs, copyright violations. Or rather capitalist corporations selling AI cause those harms. AI itself doesn't have to be harmful at all, if we create guardrails to make it work for us.

Quakertown parents, groups demand release of students in police clash Civil rights groups and parents gathered in front of the Quakertown Police Department Saturday demanding answers for the violent confrontation Friday.

INBOX: the police chief of Quakertown, Pa., led a group of plainclothes officers to disrupt a peaceful high school student sidewalk protest yesterday.

Shame on NYU Langone for ending gender-affirming care & kicking trans New Yorkers to the curb. It's a violation of their promise to treat all people equally, kindly, and respectfully — and a violation of NYC's human rights law as well. Bending the knee is bad; denying people care is even worse.
