Having a bit of a freshen up! An unnamed gentleman painting the railings outside of the Free Church in Dunkeld (now home to Jeffreys Dunkeld and The United Lodge of Dunkeld No. 14).
This photograph is undated but was taken by James MacIntosh so will be between 1900 and 1920.

Scottish Horse Troops crossing Dunkeld's Telford bridge in 1907.
Training camps took place locally at Birnam and in Blair Atholl for the regiment during the interwar period.

St Mary's tower, Birnam was built in 1860 by the Architect John Carver for Lord and Lady Manners.
St Mary's tower was demolished in the 1960s. There are photographs available to view of its condition pre-demolition via this link - www.trove.scot/place/161704...

The photograph predates the national trust's Little Houses improvement scheme and shows a glimpse of Cathedral street's previous condition.

We are undertaking a National Lottery Heritage Funded project about 6 of the shops and businesses and 6 of the houses in the local area (Dunkeld). We are researching the history of the buildings and their residents.

Burn's night, the annual celebration of the life and works of Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet.
Burns once came to visit Niel Gow and they performed together in the Old Rectory at the top of Cathedral street, it is one of the few buildings which survived the Battle of Dunkeld in 1689.

The Chapter House Museum trust was created by the Friends of Dunkeld Cathedral, the Chapter House Museum was opened in 1994. Our organisation has grown since then, the Chapter house museum is still in place but we now also have a separate archive building and exhibition at 12 The Cross Dunkeld.
