The word you're looking for, David, is "based".
It's all the rage.
As one does...
"Sir, should we promote an FBI Agent? Maybe an expert in airport security?"
"How about a counterterrorism expert? Former chief of police of a major metropolitan area?"
"Top immigration law attorney? Former military general?
<Trump>: "Let's go with a plumber."

Bondi called the peak. Investment banks should hire her.
Hey, on the bright side, at least we'll have somebody at the top who can unclog the toilets and fix leaky sinks at DHS!
"Just please, pretty please with sugar on top, don't resign before the end of your term. We still need your House vote."
...monkey's paw finger curls...

<Michelle Obama>: "Maybe we should put healthy things like veggies in our school lunch?"
<Republicans>: "EXORCISE THE DEMONS THAT ARE ROTTING OUR SOULS"
<Voting Americans>: "Sigh. They're all the same."
In the U.S., meanwhile, Fed members who express a preference for a hike will be prosecuted for not crossing a T on their home mortgage application.
Donald Trump once bought me a beer at a Cubs game.
<sheepishly to his parents> "So I got a ball"
<Sweating guy with two buttons meme>
"Boost your testosterone by huffing second-hand manly war fumes. *grunt* WAAAARRR!"
"Do not admit that your party is supporting an unconstitutional, illegal war"
there were opponents to a war who were trying, unsuccessfully, to lobby Trump away from getting to such a point.
I'm betting that Rubio and Vance were in that camp, and this statement from Rubio is CYA for his future presidential ambitions.
What's probably closest to the truth is that Trump allowed himself to be walked up the escalation cliff by Kushner and Netanyahu over the course of months until they got to a place where they could simply gently nudge Trump to get him to fly off the edge AND probably every step of the way,
I've never seen more than 3 human cashiers at my local Target, despite the existence of 20 human-operable checkout lanes.
IMHO, it's more accurate to say that public opinion exists, but it's extremely malleable - far more shapeable than Democrats are ever led to believe.
IOW, thought leadership and narrative-shaping power are far more important political factors than tea leaf-reading.
"The world is entering a post-literate age, with huge implications for societies’ politics & structure.
The smartphone’s emphasis on photos & vids has driven a decline in reading, a consequence of which is that a growing number of people are unable to grapple w/ complex ideas and nuanced arguments"
I think Rubio is trying to explain why State and the Pentagon seemingly weren't ready for the Iranian missile barrage on U.S. diplomatic targets in neighboring Arab states and questions like
"Why is the U.S. embassy in Riyadh currently in flames?"
For his part, Rubio all but came out and said today
"Not my fault! Trump allowed himself to be led by the nose by Netanyahu and we all had to scramble!"
Movie poster for the 80s flick "Re-Animator"
<Trump voice> "We plan on hiring this guy to revive the Ayatollah's body and then bring him to the U.S. to face justice in a court of law."
Going to revive Khameini's body and haul him to the U.S. to face trial?
No?
So then there's no plan.
"Our interest, I think, very much is in NOT going to war with Iran. It would be a huge distraction of resources. It would be massively expensive to our country."

My big takeaway from the invasion of Iraq—which I regret having supported—is that the US should go to war only when it has to. It should not engage in preventative wars against nebulous threats based on suspect intelligence and without a clear endgame. Yet here we go again. wapo.st/4seF5K1
