3 ways the Canadian election could affect Washington state
The U.S. and Canada share the worldβs most comprehensive trading relationship, sharing more than $2.5 billion worth of goods and services across the border each day.
Washingtonians caught between the U.S. and Canada's messy "divorce, experts told me. Growing anti-American sentiment helped deliver Prime Minister Mark Carney's election win on Monday and that rift might not heal in a long time. @seattletimes-rss.bsky.social

Death of Pope Francis brings Seattle Catholics to St. James Cathedral
Seattle Catholics gathered for Monday morning Mass at St. James Cathedral, offering prayers for Pope Francis and paying respects to his legacy.
I could hear Leticia Escobar's sniffles echo in the cathedral as the Reverend commemorated the life of Pope Francis who died hours earlier. She cried as we spoke, thinking of the "hope" he represented for marginalized people. She hoped it wouldn't be lost.

One of the worldβs wettest places, just hours from Seattle, could reopen to tourists this May
Nearly 460,000 people visited the Hoh Rain Forest last year, Olympic National Park reported. It has been closed for nearly three months.
Many businesses in the Olympic peninsula depend on tourism to the Hoh Rain Forest. With newfound funds, Jefferson County will repair a damaged road and reopen the forest.

Kitsap lawmaker's bill could clear path for foot ferries like Kitsap's across Puget Sound
An idea from a Bainbridge Island lawmaker would make it possible for other Puget Sound communities to launch small ferry services.
Rep. Greg Nance's Mosquito Fleet Act is drawing eyes from communities across Puget Sound. The act would allow waterfront governing bodies to create their own foot ferries and Kitsap is in a unique position to serve as a model. www.kitsapsun.com/story/news/2... via @kitsapsun

Criminals took over a man's home. Now neighbors face complex path to ridding a nuisance
A lonely man whose mind was slipping invited criminal vagrants into his home. Then neighbors learned how difficult it is to address a nuisance home.
A trap house in Bremerton serves as a symbol for the city's hurdles in addressing criminal vagrancy and drug crimes.
Shutting down the crime den amid changing drug laws, a constrained judicial system and homeowner rights is an uphill battle. My latest:
