My current representative is already likely losing his seat to a primary challenger from the left who would have voted no on this obvious bad faith bill. And that is exactly what Congresswoman Simon did here. She treated her constituents like adults and clearly explained the situation and her vote instead of just accepting the GOP framing.

Here’s the thing - Democrats should vote no on things that are bad faith bills designed to make them look bad either way. A good representative would vote no and then issue a statement explaining the “gotcha” situation. This is far from the first time the GOP has played this little trick.

Creating conflict within my own political coalition? I’m sorry but criticizing my representative for voting on a bad bill is a far cry from “creating conflict”. The desired outcome for the GOP was to force Democrats to accept their framing on Iran to justify war for the media, and Dems fell for it.

That is not normal, it is bad faith “gotcha” politics. Common, yes.
I’ve read it, it starts with laying the groundwork to justify war:
“Whereas the Islamic Republic of Iran poses a direct and persistent threat to the United States and is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American citizens;”

Yeah, we saw this with “socialism” last year, Republicans do that all the time - the problem isn’t just that the public falls for it, it is that not enough Democrats call it out as bad faith nonsense in the first place. They’d rather be on the record as being “tough on terror” or whatever.
