The first lie of fascism is inevitability. And that goes for opportunists who dogwhistle at fascism to get ahead, too. The Democratic Party can stink, as it does. That does not require us to support people who flirt with fascism.

Hey, thanks for saying that. That's my hope -- lot of good-intentioned folks, busy with their lives and so naturally not as versed in history of fascism, susceptible to a notion that was designed precisely to fool them. Not driven by bigotry.

US imperialism and fascism--overlapping but not identitical--have their own goals they see as advanced through different conceptions of Israeli military power. Why would you suppose it's the other way round? Seriously--how is that more plausible barring a truly surreal conspiracy?

Justice Dems do a lot of good work. And, like any political movement, will sometimes get it wrong. Barring VERY persuasive evidence, I don't think there's some Russian conspiracy to recruit shitty candidates like Platner (or Newsom)! Assholes are plenty of capable of assholing on their own.

The idea that “the Jews did 9/11” and “Israel killed Charlie Kirk” IS gutter bigotry, and as directly linked to violence past and present as anything Duke says. I don’t think you mean to, but it sounds like you’re inadvertently more forgiving when it’s directed at Jews? I’m asking earnestly.

Ok. We disagree in our assessment. Platner is a dealbreaker for me. Most people don’t know much or any of the story. But those who do and remain in his corner are, to me, no different than those who defend or excuse Newsom’s anti-trans flirtations.

Would you say this if he went on David Duke’s podcast, praised it? I’m asking in earnest not as a gotcha because this is that. That podcast’s language—and Stew Peters’—and the candidate he won’t distance from. This is fanning flames of an actively murderous belief.

Newsom has done the same dance with bigotry that Platner has, only for Newsom it’s trans people and the unhoused. I don’t think either man actually holds the bigotries they promote, tho that’s not my concern. My concern is that they’re willing to use them to get ahead.
