Thanks to everyone who came out to our Streetwise talk at Aeronaut Brewing Company, “From Ballots to Bike Lanes: How Cambridge’s Elections Shape Safer Streets”! We enjoyed sharing what we learned from the 2025 Cambridge City Council election and appreciated all the thoughtful questions.

🎟️ We hosted many well-attended events, including a presentation on “How to Talk to Your Friends About Bike Safety” at Patagonia Cambridge and a panel on “What to Do in Case You Are In a Crash” at Portico Brewing Company.

🚧 When the Broadway separated bike lanes were in danger of not being installed, we mobilized Cambridge residents to show the Council why we need separated bike lanes—and the Council voted to continue their installation.

While the fight for safe streets continues, we’re proud of what CBS has accomplished this year.

A few highlights:

🗳️ We helped elect 7 of our endorsed candidates to Cambridge City Council!

🚲💡 We distributed bike lights at every Cambridge Public School back-to-school night.

Thanks to everyone who came out Monday for our end-of-year celebration at Flat Top Johnny's. We had a great time socializing with bike friends old and new and brainstorming our next steps.

There, speakers including MA Senate President Pro Tempore Will Brownsberger, called for the state legislature to pass bills that would allow for the use of safety cameras (S.2344, H.3754) and an expanded set of truck safety requirements (S.2343 H.3653).

We're proud that the event—organized by CBS, Families for Safe Streets MA, Sidney Mae Olson Rainbow Fund, @massbike.bsky.social, Safe Roads Alliance, @bikeboston.bsky.social, and @walkmass.bsky.social—drew 250 people (via bike ride & walk) to a rally at the MA State House.

Memorial Drive is part of our state parklands and was built to support access to the riverfront—not designed or intended to be a highway. Yet it remains a very dangerous road. On Monday, 11/17, 6-8 PM, we have a chance to share our feedback at an in-person hearing at the Cambridge Community Center.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all 12 of our endorsed candidates for their passion for making Cambridge a great place to live, and to Mayor E. Denise Simmons & Timothy Flaherty on their election. We look forward to working with the full Council to build a Cambridge that truly works for everyone.

We are so grateful for the >100 CBS IEPAC volunteers who handed out over 30K flyers, knocked on countless doors, & reached tens of thousands of voters by phone + text. Your dedication powered this campaign and helped elect a City Council ready to deliver safer, more sustainable streets for everyone.

Everyone who has written to the Council, spoken at a public meeting, or encouraged friends to vote has helped build the momentum behind this movement.

Last night’s results reaffirm that street safety is a shared community priority; that kids biking to school, commuters heading to work, and neighbors running errands all deserve safety, dignity, and peace of mind on our streets.

This means the next Council will have a supermajority committed to completing Cambridge’s network of separated bike lanes by November 2026. It’s a decisive win for safe-street infrastructure and a clear sign that Cambridge voters want to keep moving forward.

We’re thrilled that seven of our endorsed candidates have been elected to the Cambridge City Council, including all five of our Bike Champions, who finished among the top performers citywide.
