I'm not telling people they shouldn't be Christians, but they should acknowledge the fact that half the New Testament was written by a guy who never met Christ and whose understanding of Christ's teaching comes primarily from a vision he had.
I've had that conversation myself. And it wasn't to dunk on the Bible, either, but just to demonstrate that it's a collection of different writings by different authors and, often, with opposing opinions on what God is and wants from them.
The easiest way to prove to me that you know nothing about the Bible is to talk about it like it's a single book with a consistent theme and message.

If you haven't read it I highly recommend picking up the first volume. Similar to his licensed books (Flintstones, snaglepuss) Mark Russell brings humanity and depth to a story I wasn't initially excited for. If you aren't checking out Mad Cave or Ahoy comics right now you are really missing out.
