This week in my class I had students insist that real Christians would not have supported slavery. I’ve had this before, but it still so chilling every time bc students have accused me of being anti-Christian and punished me for it.
Under fascism, no one is safe.
Universities stayed quiet as the admin targeted DEI & foreign aid, censored research, etc.
Now, they face devastating cuts to indirect cost rates, threatening research & operations.
Silence won’t protect institutions. It won’t protect people; it never does.
this is the "merit" two-step. first, you strongly imply or state outright that the presence of anyone who isn't a straight, able-bodied white man is unfair "DEI," then you argue that just because an institution is all-male and lily-white doesn't mean there is discrimination. that's just merit!
the OTHER thing about the white house’s anti-diversity push is that like old fashioned segregation it is explicitly an effort to undermine unions! like c’mon! don’t be stupid!
Harvard Divinity School punished students for having a PRAYER-IN last semester. I absolutely understand why students have decided to change tactics.
When you tell people to stop protesting genocide, it absolutely impacts how they respond to your shouts about fascism. Everything is connected.
