Many thanks to the @berkeleyischool.bsky.social for this great opportunity! βοΈ
It was a truly rewarding week in Vienna! Many thanks to the organizers and the #DH community for the inspiring exchanges and insights into ongoing research. As always, we are already looking forward to next yearβs DHd! (4/4)
At the poster session, Mari and Steffi presented the editorial workflow of the fortext journal, from Call for Papers to publication. π Great conversations with participants sparked new ideas for future editions and underlined the ongoing importance of a focus on DH teaching. (3/4)
This week, part of our team attended #DHd2026 in sunny Vienna β it was a joy to meet the community, exchange ideas, and present some of our current work π (1/4)
In the session βEpistemology & Interpretation,β @evelyngius.bsky.social made the case for measurement in DH, showing what analysis processes can learn from measurement theory, bridging everything from temperature to hermeneutic interpretation. A manifesto in the making. β¨ (2/4)

Michaela Mahlberg and Svenja Guhr in front of the Campanile at UC Berkeley.
@michamahlberg.bsky.socialβs stay concluded with a workshop at the AI Futures Lab as part of the #CulturalAnalytics series, where she introduced the new add-on #Flexicon for the concordance web application #CLiC.
Dear Michaela, thank you for these productive and collegial days of exchange. π»βοΈπ
CARL stands for Cultural Analytics Research Lab
The visit also provided a good opportunity to involve students. At CARL, the #CulturalAnalytics Research Lab I have been leading since its founding in January. We did a trial run of the talk and discussed current approaches to using language models for classification tasks in #CLS.
Abstract of DHd2026 contribution
Building on these topics, we spent the following days drafting a new article and preparing our talk, βSoundful Dickens,β analyzing the fictional soundscape of the #Dickens Novel corpus (DNov). Weβll present it next week at the #DHd2026 Conference in Vienna.

"We analyze all papers published at ACL, NAACL, and EMNLP in 2024 and 2025... nearly 300 papers contain at least one HalluCitation... Notably, half of these papers were identified at EMNLP 2025 ... indicating that this issue is rapidly increasing."

The article makes it sound scary, but this is actually THE most efficient and cost effective legal way to do it. The reason I've fought for DMCA exemptions to ebook cracking for scholars is they don't have AI-scale money to build corpora this way for understanding & teaching cultural history.
Comparison of Days Passed from Final Acceptance to Publication (2022 vs. 2023 vs. 2024 vs. 2025)
From final review to publication
We're especially proud of our accelerated publication process, from final acceptance to article publication. That's when the editors and editorial assistants handle: copyediting, code review, typesetting, publication, and article advertising.
