Sentencing hearings were paused Wednesday for a B.C. man found guilty in the 2017 death of Chelsey Gauthier, because the defendant chose to exert his rights to obtain a report based on claims of his Indigenous heritage. My report from Abby courts today:

Iβll be live on BC Today from the Abbotsford Judo Club at 12:45 today talking with coach Layton Keely about these free judo classes for newcomers to Canada. Read about it:

Wee bit more on this but in print. Essentially, no specific federal funding on flood recovery for Abbotsford yet.

Abbotsfordβs mayor says the city has completed hundreds of flood recovery projects, four years since a historic flood devastated the city. But he says the cityβs not ready for the next big flood yet.

Iβm on The Early Edition this morning in about 5 mins to talk about extortions in Abby β including an interview with a victim we spoke with recently. Tune in:

In case you missed our extortion town hall in Surrey last night: hereβs a bit of post-coverage from me on the thoughts community members have on the multi-police agency response to ongoing violence.

The CBC is hosting a townhall on Extortion tonight at the Surrey Arts Centre, 6:30. Iβll be there fielding audience Qs for our live broadcast. Good op for u to hear from policymakers, police (and ask Qs too) about this troubling wave of violence in the Lower Mainland.

October closes with another case of avian flu in the Fraser Valley, on Halloween. An Abby chicken farmer shares about some of the tech farmers are testing in the Valley to stop the spread. & BCβs chief vet suggests itβll be another concerning year of bird flu.

Latest from the Valley(ish). β70s era airspace regs getting in the way of more height in Langley City according to the Mayor.

Working on sharing some more digital print content too though!
Hey bluesky ppl sorry I havenβt been posting here all that much yet, just getting through that new gig energy/mindgrind so I havenβt had capacity. But Iβm gonna aim to start sharing more stuff on here regularly, mostly video reports.
Thanks Michelle!! π

Absolutely. Itβs a commerce and culture hub for the region, growing fast and there are so many things to talk about here.
A little about me - I grew up in Abby. Journalism journey started here. Interned at Abby News and the Mission city record. Wrote for UFV Cascade. I sold guitars at the local L&M. became a music blogger here. Nice to be back.
Hell yeah. Thanks Matt!!
Would love that Karen. Stay in touch. Really appreciated your insight and lived experience in our stories over the years.
For real, really proud of what I was able to do at City. this was just the right time for me to move. Lot of coverage needed in the Valley as weβve seen an attrition in news orgs. it just makes perfect sense to have a bureau in Abby, a commerce hub for the Valley thatβs just growing and changing.
Youβll still find me on the Skytrain though. And fr is someone smoking a brisket on this damn train car right now? Sure smells like it
Hey whatβs up? Programming change. Iβm with the CBC in the Fraser Valley now, back in my hometown of Abby. Tell me whatβs happening and Iβll try and look into it!

Great write by Dan Fumano on someone who did so much good in the DTES. Iβm deeply sad to know that Trey Helten is gone. Last time I talked to him he was doing yard work with his dog and he dapped me up. RIP.
