With @metoffice.gov.uk warnings issued for thunderstorms in London this weekend, please take extra care when travelling. We see a rise in 999 calls about breathing difficulties during this type of weather so remember to carry your inhaler / any medication you use.

Today we remember all those who died and all who were injured and affected by the Westminster Bridge attack on 22.03.2017.

Our thoughts are also with emergency services and NHS teams who responded on scene, in control rooms and hospitals.

196,000 emergency calls received in December 2024. Call volumes at 92% of the unprecedented demand in March 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic

We are exceptionally busy this winter. We've had 196,000 emergency calls in December and a 20% increase in 999 calls so far in January (compared to Jan 2023).

This is partly due to a surge in viruses such as flu. See our pinned post for tips on staying well this winter.

We're redoubling efforts to ensure we reach our sickest patients during an incredibly challenging winter period.

Our services are under exceptional pressure right now. Over the past 24 hours we've received nearly 7,000 calls in our 999 control room, comparable to a #NewYearsEve

This is partly caused by a huge spike in calls linked to flu, breathing problems, and alcohol consumption.
