The folks supporting (non) participatory budgeting are using the same tactics as during the charter issue.

They say is only “two cents,” without saying it means 2% of the general fund budget, or about $16 million. Nor do they tell you what cuts in city services should be made to pay for it. Sad!

It’s gone on for years. I expressed concern when they made provisions to give 6 months severance- $203,000 to deputy city administrators who were assuming positions temporarily. Golden parachutes for all except taxpayers.

The question isn’t one of comfort. It is whether the scope of the NDA aligns with the public’s expectation of government transparency, accountability and fairness.

“‘Complete betrayal’ is exactly right. It’s a betrayal not only of the coalition that forced legislators to finally take action in 2024, but of Oregonians who have been clamoring for meaningful contribution limits for decades.”

Letter from the Editor: The cure for confusion over open meetings laws isn’t more secrecy House Bill 4177 would allow public officials to discuss government business behind closed doors — two years after the state closed public meeting loopholes.

“Knowing all public work is playing out in public meetings allows us to do our job and provides transparency that helps instill the public’s trust in government.” #CityHall #Portland

2/I will bet that the legislators supporting state preemption (read screwing) of local governments like the city and county vociferously oppose federal preemption of states!

Who would pay for a major spill at Portland’s sprawling fuel hub? A state bill and a dueling Multnomah County proposal aim to ensure that fuel companies can cover cleanup costs immediately after a disaster.

1/ @multcomoyer.bsky.social is right. City and county will incur huge costs if a CEI hub disaster occurs.

“Meghan Moyer argued that the bill’s preemption clause will hinder the county’s emergency and health response at the hub.@

Measles cases this year near 1,000. That we know of. Many of the current cases stem from the outbreak in South Carolina, which the administration told Mother Jones they weren’t especially concerned about in December.

As Americans face another widespread public health crisis, the pinned post on Kennedy’s X account is a video of himself working out in a sauna, shirtless, with Kid Rock.

Multnomah County proposes closing 675 shelter beds to account for looming homeless services cuts Seven shelters could close entirely, one would have fewer county-funded beds and several motel voucher programs would end.

This week we learned that Mayor Wilson's shelter plan has plunged Portland deeper into a budget crisis. Meanwhile, at the county level, budget cuts could shutter nearly 700 shelter beds.

Poor local governments! What about citizenship want yo know what their local elected officials are discussing?

Exempting procedural matters? Like voting?
Machine thing should be clarified snd common sense- rather then one “fix” after another.
