I just want to add that, amidst the daily barrage of hate and belittling from the media and from swathes of the political class, it is so heartening and lovely to experience a warm, welcoming environment from trade union sisters.
It strengthens my belief that hate will never win.
Congratulations to all who were elected to the NEC, I look forward to working with you to continue to build and shape our union. We face challenging times but with continued commitment to our shared values and goals we can win meaningful change for our members and, by extension, our students.
Delighted to announce I have been elected UCU Vice President from the FE sector. I am honoured by all those who voted for me and endlessly thankful to everyone who supported my campaign. I pledge to listen to members and fight for our sector with fierce energy and integrity. Let's do this ๐ช
Smashing it ๐๐
Get around the table and talk! Raiding pensions is completely unacceptable! Support Northumbria UCU in this fight. If they get away with it here it will happen everywhere
Bless you for dragging yourself out to vote. Total commitment ๐ Rest up and feel better soon
Why do I have to do BoxPhish training on bribery and money laundering?! I'm a teacher I don't have any money to launder or give bribes with ๐
UCU ballot closes today! Regardless of the outcome I'd like to acknowledge the efforts and commitment of all the candidates running. Much love to everyone who voted, all the amazing people involved in my campaign for their hard work and my brilliant running mate @markpendleton.bsky.social ๐
Today is the last safe day to post your #UCU election ballot, tomorrow it would need a first class stamp. If you've already voted ask your colleagues if they've voted too. Got this great picture from a member at my branch this morning- replacement ballot arrived just in time ๐

Today London Met collegaues, students and supporters were out in force againt vicious cuts.
London Met has a proud history of educating working class students, many from the local community and many who are the first in their family to go to university. We will keep fighting โ
Across the UK, UCU branches are fighting job cuts and compulsory redundancies at Stirling, Aberdeen, Heriot-Watt, Essex, Solent, Leicester, Nottingham and London Met. Same story: cuts, overwork, and attacks on education. We stand with every branch in dispute.

Ridiculous short sighted decisions from management again ๐ฅ
It's the final week of voting in the #UCU elections. Don't forget to get your ballot into a postbox before Thursday this week (or Friday if you use a first class stamp)

Aye, sorry I had to do a mad dash to catch my train ๐
Take a moment to listen to the realities of teaching in Prison Ed from the wonderful Pauline Rattery. I heard many stories yesterday at the Prison Ed AGM. These amazing educators do an incredible job under the most challenging circumstances.

Proud to chair the UCU Prison Education AGM today. They have faced 25% funding cuts, mass redundancies, broken profiling systems and shocking failures of workplace health & safety- yet the determination in the room to rebuild, organise and fight for members was absolutely inspiring โ

@ucunorthumbria.bsky.social asked, and people told us....What would you choose: pay freeze, insecure pension, or what you have? @ucea.bsky.social @ucu.org.uk @chroniclelive.co.uk @danhollandnews.bsky.social @chionwurah.bsky.social
Another 200 job losses have been announced at the University of Dundee.

Can't wait for these changes. Postal ballots are so limiting and inaccessible for many for loads of different reasons. I hope this goes some way to improve engagement - until then, keep having those conversations with colleagues about getting their vote in a postbox if they can.
3 weeks to decide, 9 months salary to choose to leave - almost certainly forever - the industry you've dedicated most of your adult life to.
Hustings recordings for the VP (FE) and VP (HE) elections are up and can be viewed here www.ucu.org.uk/article/1419...
If you haven't posted your ballot yet give these a watch (grab a brew, they're 15mins each) and hopefully it helps you back a candidate.
Check out these vids from Mark laying out why he deserves your vote for VP from the HE sector.
They'll be sent to the Red Centre for Handmaid training ๐คฎ
I believe that university should be free, and the state should be funding universities such that it can be free for all. I also believe that people in universities did their level best in dreadful circumstances during COVID. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Pickets at Northumbria uni this week
Great news from Birmingham UCU
Celebrate the wins!
Today's ruling on the EHRC's interim guidance is a disappointing, confusing and mixed picture.
A trans woman who is a customer in a cafรฉ can use the women's toilets, but if she works there she might not be able to.
Once again everyday life is being made a legal labyrinth for trans people.
Yaaas Northumbria UCU! Loud fierce pickets and adorable dogs! Hands off the pensions! Let the VC take a pay cut.
