Looking forward to this whole workshop, especially the public conversation on the novel and labor with Dora Zhang and Lilith Todd on May 1 in Philly!

What better way to end the working week than with luck bestowed by some mischievous Cornish piskies!

We came across this charming and joyful postcard, dating back to 1915, whilst box-listing an archive this morning.

'The Caricaturer's Stock in Trade' (1786) A print showing sketches of famous individuals, among them: King George III, his wife Queen Charlotte, their son the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Devonshire, and politicians including Lord North, William Pitt, and Charles James Fox. The figures are in profile, except for Fox, who looks out at the viewer, and Lord North, who is seen from behind. Each individual is identified by a handwritten label, almost certainly a later addition to the print.

We really should be talking instead about abolishing A-levels. They force young people to over-specialise too early. They need good range of knowledge and keen critical thinking skills at that age, not narrowness.

Commiserations re the form

Congratulations on finding Narnia!

More commiserations on finding the form to fill in to ensure the university is properly insured for your travel to Narnia

Fixed rule of university life: if you're trying to fill in a form, the form template you need will be completely inaccessible.

Been clicking links for an hour. I've found mission statements. I've found policy documents. I've found Narnia. But I have not found the form.

2: Late Night Tales: Barry Can't Swim

I've heard a bit of Barry Can't Swim, most of it I've loved. Looking forward to this as LNT mixes are often proper "Indulgent DJ First Track" stuff spun out for an hour, which I find interesting.
