For anyone searching for a podcast to play during a walk, while grading, or elsewhere, you might wish to check out this #Ottoman History series on the sounds of #Egypt over the past century, from WWI to the audiocassette to the Arab Spring. www.ottomanhistorypodcast.com/p/the-sound-...
This is where I work in Cairo: Bab al-Wazir in the 1920's with Bayt al-Razzaz (1474) to the right, and the Mosque of Umm Sultan Shaban (b.1367). To the left Bayt Sedki Pasha and the now lost Bayt Qura'a, Shaykh al-Azhar and Egypt's Mufti from 1921-1928.
