That same pressure exists to justify the purchase, but because we are more well-informed about the content of each game, it's harder to take risks. Why buy a game you know little about compared to something you're certain you'll sink hours into. This flips a little with digital sales, but meh
Something else to consider is that most of the games you'd grab before were selected over exclusively the cover art or a recommendation from a friend. Now we have in-depth reviews and easy to find gameplay footage, so you're less likely to take a chance on a game than you did before

The problem is that tech companies like this target the ignorant. Eg streaming platforms like Netflix praying people subscribe and forget about the subscription. Some people will circumvent it, but the average majority won't have those skills or patience unfortunately
