On tomorrow's Say More, @maryldixon.bsky.social and I talk with sociologist Robert Sampson about his new book Marked by Time. People overseas love their kids just as much as you love yours. Your kids aren’t more special just because they were born on US soil

Those were the only two shootings for McNeal, but Coleman has been involved in four more since β€” starting with the 2009 shooting of 19-year-old Fermon Booth.

β€œHe’s a different kind of cop,” said Booth, now 28. β€œHe’s an intimidating mother------, man.”

It was a pretty excellent yarn with @ctoner.bsky.social & @pksmid.bsky.social. Give it a read and get more context about the officer from this case in Dolton. projects.bettergov.org/taking-cover...

At the AI conference, Altman also downplayed concerns about the water datacenters require.

β€œWater is totally fake. It used to be true. We used to do evaporative cooling in datacenters, but now … we don’t do that,” Altman said. β€œYou see things on the internet, [like]: β€˜Don’t use ChatGPT. It’s 17 gallons of water for each query or whatever.’ This is completely untrue – totally insane.”

CNBC reported that β€œsome newer data centers no longer rely on water at all”.

The director of the Southern New Hampshire University office of sustainability, Mike Weinstein, told the Guardian he was skeptical of the argument from Altman and other AI advocates that the power such infrastructure demands is justified because the technology will help alleviate global problems.

Effective Altruist blogger Andy Masley is single-handedly responsible for creating this scoffing line among billionaire tech goblins (notably a bunch of leftist accounts here seem to repeat it too)

Water consumption issues are not just real: they're crippling

Trump aides struggle with how to spend $500 billion more on military Some senior officials resisted the decision to approve the major military spending increase, people familiar with the matter say.

Reading this storyβ€”about how the Pentagon has been given so much extra money it's struggling to spend it allβ€”while thinking about the formerly homeless tenants I've spoken with in recent weeks whose housing vouchers are being discontinued for "lack of funds."

Extremist rhetoric is often found in government messaging. Who's the target? In a rare move, the White House recently took down a racist post from one of President Trump's social media accounts. Extremism researchers say it fits a pattern of mainstreaming extremist ideas.

We'll be talking with NPR Domestic Extremism Correspondent @oyousef.bsky.social about this recent story:

There's a long and honorable newspaper tradition of sending reporters out into the field to dump raw findings onto someone back in the office who has the skills and knowledge and understanding to shape the material into a story, and that's why editors got paid more than reporters

The acting director of ICE told Congress, under oath, that local law enforcement in Colorado leaked raid plans, allowing gang members to escape.

After 9NEWS questioned ICE's claim and its timeline, ICE deleted the claim from its social media platforms.
