Sorry to hear that Clive Byers died yesterday. There'll be many who knew Clive a lot better than I did but I considered him a friend. Always fun, always helpful to a fellow illustrator and always happy to provide a floor to crash on.
A great guy I wish I'd known better.
First Brimstone’s of the year in Bicester early afternoon
Yes saw those
Couple of American Goldies, White Rumped Sand couple of Lesser Legs
Unfortunately didn’t see the Eagle. Saw the American BT, Franklins, 17 Bee eaters a couple of PB Grebes
A Truly Amazing record in our county which has had its moments over the years with the likes of Baltimore Oriole, Buff-bellied Pipit, Surf Scoter, Baikal Teal, Gull-billed Tern, Pallas’s Warbler, Blue-winged Teal, Booted Eagle, Pallid Harrier to name a few.
Common Nighthawk, Sept 2022, Oxfordshire
Urban twitches can be legendary & fondly recalled later in #birding folklore. One such was the one day Nighthawk at Wantage that sat on a garden fence behind some parked cars as hundreds of enthusiasts hastily changed plans for their day and made pilgrimage.
Ross’s Gull at Newlyn, Cornwall this morning (22nd Feb 2026). Found on the 21st in Newlyn harbour by Shaun Grose.
This is the 9th for Cornwall and my fourth. The last record was in 2020 when an adult was found at Gerrans Bay on 1st Jan.

The Hume's Warbler at Flycatcher Alley, Lowestoft was very mobile this morning, but showed well at times. Quite washed out khaki in colour compared to autumn, but with a brown wash across breast typical of winter birds
37 Years and still holding its own!!
Live on the Golf from Qatar.
Yeah keeping well mate hopefully see you sometime this year. Caspian Plover in Norfolk this spring maybe!!!
Are you carrying on throughout the year Jim what’s the Norfolk yearlist record?
An hour at Staines late morning. Distant Lesser Scaup, Drake and Fem Scaup, B N Grebe, G N Diver and Black Red. @rarebirder.bsky.social @birdguides.bsky.social
From Anthony Mcgeehans birding from the hip 1992 Mizen Head Isabelline Wheatear twitch
Looking at these images of the Cheddar Red-necked Grebe captured by Bristol birder Bri Thompson and the bill is broad-based and appears to be roughly the same length as the head. Possibly a candidate Holboells? Appeared on the large side overall when seen next to Great-crested Grebe #ukbirding
Nic Cobb took some great photos back in the late 80’s and 90’s. It was thanks to him that I saw the Golden Winged Warbler as he’d not got photos at the mass twitch and took me and a friend when he went back a couple of weeks later.
Yeah literally just after I left you and was walking to the viewing area the next person I said hello to said it’s just flown off we lost it from view!! Luckily 5 mins later it flew back in. 😅
Think maybe Nic Cobb and Nige Wheatley
Nutcracker. My tame garden resident sits expectantly above me as I restock the feeder. Not a care in the world! 😍😎 10x optical zoom on my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. No phoneskoping. They really are just amazing #birds #birding #birdwatching #finland
Nice to see my 3rd UK Killdeer this morning. 1994 (Holyhead), 2006 (Blakeney) being the other two. Good to see @steveonhilbre.bsky.social and two of his offspring briefly too.
Just got sent this by @howardvaughanbeb.bsky.social (who’s lurking at the back) Blakeney Point, 14th May ‘88. Bonelli’s warbler twitch. Not sure why I’m standing on one leg #KidListers
3 records from Helgoland, latest in 2016 makes Montifringilla nivalis observation.org/observation/... overdue a place back on the British List - as predicted here www.researchgate.net/profile/Alex... #UKBirding
Green Sand, Little Egret and Grey Wagtail at BWR late PM. Merry Christmas everyone 🎄
Well it seems the Boat-tailed now identifies as a Great-tailed Grackle #Tipp-Ex #GripBack
Ooh, poop sample from the grackle from Calshot, Hampshire, Nov 25, shows it was Great-tailed, not Boat-tailed as thought. Analysis by @tessaroo.bsky.social poop by @wjrpb.bsky.social
