‘I just run. I run in void. Or maybe I should put it the other way: I run in order to acquire a void.’ I always come back to this quote from Haruki Murakami. This is why I run, to find moments of quiet🏃♀️

First day back on campus…
Huge congratulations to @sammorgn97.bsky.social who successfully passed her PhD viva last week! 🎉👏
The title of Sam's thesis is ‘The Production of Law Through Space and Affect: Examining LGBTQI+ Rights Strategic Litigation and Activist Practice in the Caribbean’
Group of people sat around a table toasting with champagne.
I’m SO PROUD of my PhD student @sammorgn97.bsky.social who successfully defended her thesis yesterday. Sam wrote a brilliant thesis examining how we can use emotion and space to navigate the legal politics of LGBTQ+ rights advocacy in the Caribbean.
Now to celebrate! 🥂

At the end of the day, if the “concern” you have about your country or neighbourhood is that there are too many Black or Brown people living there, then that is racism. Yearning to make the place you live more white is, in fact, white supremacy. Just saying.
Fascism is thriving. Every politician, journalist, and influencer that talks about migrants as threats, Black folks as criminals, trans people as social contagions, etc is directly facilitating the social resentments that shape fascism. We need them to stop their destructive disinformation politics.
It's physically unsafe for people like me to go into the centre of our home city this Saturday on account of the colour of our skin.
Most politicians are either failing to stand up to this or actively contributing to the situation.
We don't owe any of those politicians our votes. Not one of them.
One of the things I talk about in my work is how we erroneously believe that the passage of time is what brings about change. In actual fact, it is our action to change things that brings about the passage of time. Otherwise, we are trapped in repeating and expanding fascisitic/colonising patterns.
This is all becoming very dangerous and the Government's failure to show any kind of resistance to it is a disgrace www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...
The largest number of perpetrators of sexual violence in the UK are white men. Any attempt to place blame squarely on racialised groups is not only racist, but it also obscures the systemic problem of men’s violence against women (within homes, which is the most dangerous place for women).

The theme this year was existence and resistance.
Team QueerAF were there and witnessed a strong, empowered community that was turning its rage, into a powerful fight back 👇
“Under the Trump administration, families are being pushed to the brink, forced to navigate impossible barriers to care, while the federal government intensifies its assault on transgender rights.”
Governments in the US and elsewhere are legislating erasure of trans youth. It’s shameful and cruel.
Just got a copy of Ocean Voungs The Emperor of Gladness, and it’s my first read of Pride Month. Few voices hold queerness, grief and beauty with such care. Cant wait to begin reading. 🏳️🌈

In a rare interview, Sufjan Stevens talks to Paste about the transformations of grief, his pivot away from scholarship in songwriting, the consciousness of art, and Americana as a mythology. www.pastemagazine.com/music/sufjan...

An inspiring evening at Professor Kehinde Andrews’ book launch and documentary screening.
The film was both enlightening and powerful, a vital portrayal of the real Malcolm X that resonates deeply with our current moment. I can’t wait to get stuck into the book!
Huge congratulations to @senthorun.bsky.social on the publication of his new book! We’re so proud and can’t wait to celebrate the launch at Manchester Law School!

A relaxing weekend of cycling around Copenhagen, reading in the sun and visiting bookshops before the final stretch of PhD work 📚 ✍️
Trying to edit a paper but I keep getting distracted by my little companion basking in the sun 🌈
Today is Stephen Lawrence Day - a day to reflect, honour and celebrate the legacy of his life.

Here is an excellent letter template for contacting your MP. Reach out, edit it to make it personal, and ask for a meeting in person!
